The sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, casting a warm glow over the space as Selene stood by the stove, preparing breakfast. Her mind was wandering, lost in the memories of the night before. She couldn't believe it—Claire was officially hers now. The mark on Claire's neck, a delicate, crescent-shaped bite, still lingered in Selene's thoughts, reminding her of the connection they now shared. It was a bond unlike anything she had ever experienced, one that made her feel both protective and utterly devoted to the woman she loved.

Her lips curved into a smile as she thought about their long, intimate nights together. Last night had been intense, and she knew Claire needed a break, though she herself could have gone on for days. The memory of Claire's soft skin beneath her fingertips, the way her body responded to every touch, had Selene lost in a haze of affection and desire. The mark was a symbol of their union, a sign that Claire belonged to her, and it filled Selene with a sense of pride and deep satisfaction.

A pair of arms suddenly wrapped around her waist, pulling her out of her thoughts. Claire's warmth pressed against Selene's back, and she felt the familiar flutter in her chest. She turned her head slightly and kissed Claire on the lips, a gentle peck that made her heart race all over again.

"Good morning," Selene said softly, her voice carrying a hint of amusement as she felt Claire's arms tighten around her.

Claire rested her chin on Selene's shoulder and spoke in a playful, childish voice, "Morning. I'm hungry."

Selene chuckled and turned in Claire's arms, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Alright, let's get you fed," she said with a teasing smirk, then turned back to the stove to finish preparing breakfast. Today, she had made pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. It wasn't the most elaborate meal, but it was simple and comforting. Besides, Claire always seemed to enjoy the way Selene cooked, even if Selene herself didn't have much of a taste for human food.

Once the plates were ready, they sat down at the small dining table in the kitchen. But instead of taking her usual seat, Claire plopped down right in Selene's lap, making herself comfortable. Selene wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close as they began to eat.

As they sat there, eating and talking about everything and nothing, Selene couldn't help but feel content. Their conversation was light, full of laughter, teasing, and stolen glances that spoke volumes about how close they had become. Every now and then, Claire would playfully steal a bite of food from Selene's plate, which only made Selene smile more.

But as the two of them were lost in their comfortable bubble, a sudden knock on the door interrupted the moment.

"I'll get it," Claire said, standing up from Selene's lap and heading toward the front door. Selene watched her go, admiring the sway in Claire's hips before taking a sip from her glass—blood, disguised as wine.

The door creaked open, and Claire's voice filled the house, her tone surprised and excited. "Mom!"

Selene perked up at the mention of Claire's mother, feeling a mixture of curiosity and nervousness. She hadn't seen Claire's mom in weeks either, not since the initial chaos that had erupted in their lives. Selene stood up and followed Claire to the front door, where she saw the two women embracing.

"Hello, Selene," Claire's mother greeted her with a grin that was both friendly and mischievous.

"Hi, Mrs. Evans," Selene replied, trying to be as polite as possible. But before she could say anything else, Claire's mom leaned in, her voice lowering to a whisper meant only for Selene.

"I can feel your energy all over my daughter," she said with a playful smirk, fake-gagging as if the very idea disgusted her.

Selene felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment, a rare feeling for her. Despite being centuries old, she was still shy around Claire's mom. But she couldn't help but laugh softly, the sound awkward and a bit nervous.

"What's so funny?" Claire asked, her tone tinged with curiosity and jealousy as she noticed the exchange between the two women.

"Oh, nothing," Claire's mom said with a chuckle, eyeing the mark on Claire's neck. "Just admiring the lovely little mark you've got there." She winked playfully, causing Claire to blush furiously and squirm on the spot.

"Mom, stop!" Claire whined, her face red with embarrassment as she pouted like a child.

Claire's mother laughed heartily, clearly enjoying her daughter's reaction. "What? You're all grown up now. I can't help but tease you a little."

Claire crossed her arms over her chest, still pouting, but her mother wasn't done with the jokes yet. "You must really want to make me a grandma already, huh?" she added with a wink directed at Selene.

The comment caught Selene completely off guard, and she nearly choked on the blood she was drinking, setting the glass down quickly to avoid spilling it. She tried to laugh it off, but the thought of starting a family with Claire made her head spin. It wasn't something they had ever talked about, and now wasn't exactly the right time to start that conversation.Selene cleared her throat, hoping to steer the conversation back to something less... intense.

"So, what brings you by, Mrs. Cathy?" she asked, genuinely curious.

The playful smile on Claire's mother's face faded, replaced by a more serious expression. She glanced between the two of them before gesturing toward the living room. "We need to talk," she said, her voice heavy with a seriousness that made Selene's stomach drop.

Claire frowned, her earlier excitement disappearing in an instant. "What's going on, Mom?" she asked, clearly concerned.

"Just sit down, both of you," her mother instructed as she made her way toward the living room. "There's something important we need to discuss."

The playful atmosphere from earlier was gone, replaced by a tension that weighed heavily in the air. Selene exchanged a glance with Claire, both of them feeling the shift in mood, but neither of them had any idea what was about to come.

Whatever it was, though, it didn't seem good.
