Biblical Verse:
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." — James 1:2-3 (NIV)The weeks that followed Vanessa and Adrian's heartfelt conversation at the restaurant were filled with a renewed sense of purpose. Both were committed to their relationship, determined to build it on a foundation of faith and trust. They continued to spend time together, but also separately sought God's guidance, praying fervently for wisdom and strength. Their bond deepened with each passing day, and though the journey was not without its challenges, there was a shared understanding that they were in this together.
However, as with any journey of faith, trials were inevitable.
One crisp autumn afternoon, Vanessa was busy preparing for a special service at the church. It was the annual "Harvest of Praise" event, a time when the community gathered to give thanks and celebrate God's blessings. The sanctuary was adorned with autumnal decorations—pumpkins, gourds, and vibrant fall leaves—and the air was filled with the scent of apple cider and cinnamon.
Vanessa had been looking forward to this event for weeks. It was one of her favorite times of the year, a reminder of God's provision and the beauty of His creation. She had spent hours planning the music, ensuring that each song would touch the hearts of those who attended. Adrian, as always, was by her side, helping with the preparations and offering his support.
But beneath the surface of their busy lives, something was brewing—a storm they couldn't see coming.
It started with a phone call, one that Vanessa received just as she was about to leave the church for the day. The number on the screen was unfamiliar, but something compelled her to answer it.
"Hello?" she said, pressing the phone to her ear.
"Vanessa?" The voice on the other end was hesitant, as if unsure whether to speak or not.
"Yes, this is Vanessa. Who's this?"
There was a pause, and then the voice continued, trembling slightly. "It's Lisa... Adrian's ex."
Vanessa felt her heart skip a beat. She had heard about Lisa from Adrian, knew that she was a part of his past, but she had never expected to hear from her directly.
"Lisa," Vanessa repeated, trying to keep her voice calm. "What... what can I do for you?"
"I know this is unexpected," Lisa said quickly, as if sensing Vanessa's discomfort. "And I'm sorry for calling you out of the blue. But I've been praying about this, and I felt like I needed to talk to you."
Vanessa's mind raced. Why was Lisa calling? What did she want? She took a deep breath, willing herself to stay composed. "Okay... I'm listening."
There was another pause, and then Lisa began to speak, her voice filled with emotion. "Vanessa, I know that you and Adrian are seeing each other, and I'm not calling to interfere or cause problems. But there's something you need to know—something I should have told Adrian a long time ago."
Vanessa gripped the phone tightly, her heart pounding in her chest. "What is it, Lisa?"
"Adrian and I... we had a child," Lisa said, her voice barely above a whisper. "A little girl. Her name is Emily."
Vanessa's breath caught in her throat. A child? Adrian had never mentioned a child. He had spoken about the relationship, about the pain and the heartache, but he had never said anything about a daughter.
"Lisa," Vanessa said slowly, trying to process the information. "Why didn't you tell him?"
"I was scared," Lisa admitted, her voice cracking. "When I found out I was pregnant, Adrian and I had already started to drift apart. I knew he was struggling with his faith, and I didn't want to add to his burden. So, I made the decision to leave... and I never told him. But now, I see that it was wrong. Emily deserves to know her father, and Adrian deserves to know his daughter."
