Tira woke wrapped in a warm embrace to a small robin singing. She opened her eyes and realized she was on the roof of the hospital. A curious robin hopped atop the roof inspecting them. Her face flushed scarlet as she glanced behind her and spotted Hawks sleeping soundly, his head pressed into her back, his arms holding her close keeping her warm.
Warm rays of sunlight kissed her skin. A worrisome thought crossed her mind and she jumped causing Hawks to startle awake. He took a moment to assess the situation before offering her a slow lazy smile.
"Good morning, Ice Queen."
Tira felt her knees weaken at his heart melting smile. She shook her head trying to stay focused, her father was probably waking up and would freak out if she was missing. "My dad will be worried."
Hawks took a moment to think over her words before growing pale, his idol would burn him alive. "Let's head back." He offered her a hand and helped her to her feet.
He kept a firm arm around her so she could lean on him as she was currently wracked with pain and the new sensation of being able to feel. Hawks led her back to her room and they both jumped as they heard Endeavor's irate roar.
"What do you mean you lost her?!" Endeavor snarled from Tira's empty hospital room. A male nurse sprinted out of the room in a panic.
Tira and Hawks scurried into the room, "not lost." Hawks smiled only to let out a yelp as Endeavor turned on him with a glare.
"Tira, are you alright?" Her father asked in as calm a voice as he could manage.
Tira nodded, "sorry for worrying you."
Her father looked momentarily conflicted, he didn't want her to ever have to apologize for anything, but he had been worried. She looked a little chilled, the tip of her nose a little bit red. He picked up the fleece blanket that had been at the foot of her hospital bed and wrapped her in it. "You look chilled."
Tira smiled and accepted the blanket.
"Where were you?" Endeavor asked, resisting every urge in his body that told him to pummel the winged brat standing much too close to his daughter.
"We fell asleep on the roof." Tira admitted with a blush.
Endeavor clenched his fists and Hawks paled as he felt his lifespan shrink.
"Alright Endeavor, you and Miss Todoroki are free to go." A doctor stepped into the room and paused as he noticed the tension in the air. "Everything alright?"
"Yes. Let's go." Endeavor motioned Tira toward the door.
Tira hesitantly shrugged from Hawks' hold and set the blanket back on the bed before ducking out of the room.
Her father and Hawks joined her after a quick silent exchange of furious glances from Endeavor and panicked/apologetic glances from Hawks. They took the lead and Tira followed after them quietly. As they walked, Tira let out a sudden gasp of pain as her arms began to burn. Her heart clenched in her chest, Toya was upset and overusing his quirk.
"Tira?" Her father asked worriedly and reached out to comfort her but hesitated expecting her to flinch and shy away from his touch.
Tira let out a soft whimper and clutched at the burns now rippling across her arms.
"What's happening?" Hawks asked, panicked, searching for some kind of threat nearby.
"Toya?" Endeavor asked.
Tira nodded.
Endeavor frowned before sweeping her off her feet and into his arms. His heart swelled in his chest as she leaned into his embrace, seeking comfort from him. He wasn't sure the day would come when she would actively seek comfort from him. He'd been overjoyed when she stopped flinching in his presence, this was a miracle. He held her close.
""What am I missing here?" Hawks asked, confused.
"Her twin brother. They've always had a strong connection, when either of them gets hurt, the other experiences it."
"Do we need to find him?" Hawks asked worried not putting the pieces together.
"It's his own doing. He's upset about hurting Tira yesterday." Endeavor retorted.
"But wasn't that Dabi-..." Hawks started connecting the dots. "Oh." Dabi's sudden hostility was starting to make a little more sense. He threw a concerned look at Tira. Though she said her father had improved much in the past years, for her to have not one but two unstable and probably overbearing men in her life, that couldn't have been easy. They surely put her through hell, both of them. He clenched his fists at his sides as he followed them to the airport. He made a silent vow to himself to always be a source of stability for her and to never mistreat her the way her father and brother had.
Once they arrived at the airport Tira was alright enough to walk on her own and took a seat while her father went to make flight arrangements. He was reluctant to leave her alone with Hawks but he'd meant what he'd said to her the night before, if she liked the winged brat, he'd accept it and stay out of her way. He kept throwing worried glances back in their direction, he saw Tira begin to relax in Hawks' presence and offer him a smile as if it were the most natural thing for her to do.
"Hey, Ice Queen." Hawks spoke softly once his idol left them alone.
Tira turned to him with a smile, she loved that he called her that. It felt empowering and endearing. Heat began to creep up in her cheeks as he gently grabbed her hand and lifted it to his lips placing a tender kiss to her knuckles.
"I'm always here for you." He vowed as he brushed his lips over the back of her hand. "No matter what."
Tira felt her heart stutter in her chest. Why was he being so serious and solemn all of a sudden. She gently squeezed his fingers in hers. "That goes both ways." She said softly and offered him a smile. "I'm here for you too, Hawks."
He smiled, "with an Ice Queen on my side, I'll be an unstoppable force."
Tira blushed at this. It sounded a little corny but she felt the same way, knowing he was in her corner, she felt stronger, more confident.
Someone cleared their throat behind them, startling them apart. Endeavor looked to be struggling for composure not liking how casually Hawks put his hands on her. He remained silent on that matter as he noticed Tira looked much happier. "Our flight will be leaving soon. Say your goodbyes." He said stiffly and averted his gaze to give them some semblance of privacy.
Tira smiled and turned to Hawks. She stood on tiptoe and pressed a kiss to his cheek, "I hope you'll come visit us sometime."
Hawks felt his heart skip a beat in his chest, "I'd like that." He caught her hand in his giving it one last squeeze before turning to Endeavor, "maybe we can team up again in the future."
Endeavor bit back his automatic retort and grit his teeth together to keep from saying anything mean or rude, "fine."
Hawks looked surprised at this and turned to smile at Tira knowing he was only getting this response because of her. "Thanks again, Ice Queen."
