It was early in the morning as I changed into my new official sky-warrior suit and put all my gear on. I usually wore a simple black spandex suit with boots when I was in the academy, but now I got my very own suit. I had a grey long-sleeve shirt that it's fabric was spandex with a black tactical vest for my equipment. The vest had a built in navy blue, almost black cape and my spandex/ tactical pants were a lighter shade of navy blue. My black combat boots were tight and ready for action. Even though I'm technically not supposed to wear any jewelry, my special necklace was an exception and I kept it under my shirt just for good luck. My hair was as usual, a half up half down style with braids on top to keep it out of my face. Today was my first mission. I was equally excited and terrified, but I was ready to do the job I had been dreaming of for years. I always wanted to be a warrior, a hero, and today was the day I got to make it come true.

As I gathered my thoughts before leaving my house, I went to my parents for some comfort.

"You have everything you need honey?"

"Yes mom, I'm all good. So... I guess I'll see you guys in a couple of days."

"Yes, I guess so."

My mom started tearing up, and soon enough so did I. I wasn't leaving for the academy anymore, I was leaving for real life missions and battles. It was scary, but it was life, it was my new reality.

My dad came up and hugged me as well after my mom said her goodbyes.

"Zera, I know we have taught you everything in order to survive out there, but... I just want to say that we love you." My dad was trying to be strong once again, but his tone and face said it all.

"I love you both. I know I don't say this often, but I don't think I would have remained sane if it weren't for you guys. I promise I'll make you proud."

"Zera, you have already made us proud, you will always make us proud... always."

Both me and my parents hugged and as I stepped out of the house I had this melancholy feeling. Life was changing and so was I, but that meant new adventures would arise and I would be front and center.
