The Is The End

Chapter #3: Capture.

     The next morning Oliver got ready for his turn for patrol. He put on black combat pants, black compression shirt, black socks, black combat boots, black shooting gloves, black cowboy hat, his pair of cold steel combat swords on his back, a knife on each hip then his two Glock 22 9mm holsters then finally his revolver holster on his chest.
     Oliver then went outside on patrol looking for any weaknesses in the fence. The inner fence was completely okay and intact. So he went outside the fence and past the trench. He saw that a zombie had fallen into the trench and impaled itself in the chest with one of the wooden spears.
     Oliver continued patrolling when a lady infected lunged at him. He quickly pulled out his sword and sliced her arms off in one fluid motion as he dodged the attack. Then sliced her legs off in one fluid motion. Now the lady was missing her arms from the shoulder down and her legs from the knee down. He kicked out all her teeth out of her head without damaging the brain so she was till a zombie who couldn't bite.
     He dragged the lady zombie back to the house and put her in a shipping container that was 10ft wide and 40ft long. The shipping container was underground by 5 ft. It was Oliver's lab. He chained the lady zombie to a lab table and pulled out a stethoscope and checked for a heartbeat. There was none.
     Oliver then took a blood sample from the zombies heart and out it under a microscope. To which he saw the usual red and white blood cells but there was something more. Something that had latched onto the blood cells at a cellular level. Oliver continued studying it but couldn't find anything like it in any infectious disease books.
     Oliver grabbed one of his testing rats and injected it with some of the zombie blood. And put it in a bulletproof glass box that was 12 inches long by 12 inches wide by 10 inches tall. As Oliver was studying the rat he heard someone come into his lab. So he quickly drew his Glock 22 and pointed it at where the sound came from. When he realized it was his dad he lowered his gun and put it on the table and said, "Jesus dad, I could have killed you"
     Mikael saw the infected lady chained down to the table and saw Oliver in his 'studying' face. Mikael knew when Oliver wanted to study something no one could stop him. And from what he's seen Oliver successfully captured a zombie and got it here without incident. Mikael soon said, "sorry Ollie, have you figured anything out yet?"
     To which Oliver said, "from what I can tell from the rat is once infected it takes time for the virus to kill you then when you die you come back as one of those" while pointing to the infected zombie lady. Then continued talking saying, "they have no heartbeat that's obviously since they are dead. But there's something else. Something strange. Come here look at this."
     Oliver said while pointing to the microscope. Mikael walked over to the microscope and looked in and was just confused since he has no medical knowledge and said, "what am I looking at?" To which Oliver said, "red and white blood cells but there's something else. Something I've never seen in any textbook or paper."
     "From what I can tell the infection bonds to the body at a cellular level. Slowly killing the infected turning them into those things" Oliver said while pointing to the zombie lady again. Mikael was confused and said, "you shouldn't be testing and experimenting by yourself. It's to dangerous" Mikael said while hugging his son.
     Oliver then said, "I'm sorry dad." To which Mikael said, "it's okay" while hugging Oliver. He stopped hugging Oliver to stab the infected lady in the head and burn the infected rat till it was ash. Mikael then dragged the dead infected lady's corpse to a burn pit and burned her till there was nothing but ash and bone.
     Oliver and Mikael went back inside the house. Oliver went to his room to wash up and Mikael went to his to wash up. Soon they both came back from their rooms. They all went into the living room to see if the news was still running and by luck it was. On the news they saw Dallas had fallen and had been bombed.
     Oliver's mom Lucy started crying and buried her face into Mikaelson chest. The triplets were trying not to cry. Aurora went back to her room while Mikael and Oliver continued watching the news. A single tear fell from olivers right eye. Both Mikael and Oliver knew that had to be strong for their family.
     Soon enough Aurora came back downstairs and turned off the TV and said, "how are we going to survive this?" Mikael said, "we'll find a way to survive. We always do" to which Oliver said, "Dads right we'll find a way to survive. Because I won't accept this is the end. And neither shall you."
     Markus finally spoke up and said, "Dad, Ollie how can you be so fucking optimistic? There are literal FUCKIN ZOMBIES" Oliver then said, "Because hope is all we have left. And if that's gone then there will be nothing left for us."
