✶ Scarlett
Scarlett sipped her iced coffee, the bitter chill of the drink a stark contrast to the warm Los Angeles sun filtering through the restaurant's shaded patio. Across the table, Leena was scrolling through her phone, her wrinkled with annoyance.
"Eww-uhh" Leena finally burst out, her voice hushed but heated. "I can't believe I decided to be nice and comment on Margaret's post. My fingers burn."
Scarlett rolled her eyes, pushing her sunglasses up into her hair. "Oh, don't even get me started on that album. 'Limelight'? Please, as if she wasn't just telling me to bask in the limelight—while it lasts."
Leena gasped, shaking her head. "No!"
"Yes!," Scarlett said, leaning back in her chair with a huff. "Limelight my ass bitch."
"And did you see Jenny and Catelyn's comments?" Leena added, lowering her voice even more. "They both fawned over her post like she's Taylor Swift 2.0. But not a single text or call to you since the last meeting."
Scarlett's jaw tightened. "I know, right? I get that we're all busy and feelings got hurt, but a little loyalty would be nice."
Leena nodded sympathetically. "It's ridiculous. You've done so much for the group, and now they're just... leaving you out."
"It's whatever," Scarlett said, though her tone was anything but dismissive. "If they want to play games, fine. Let Margaret have her moment. I'm not going to waste my energy on her or her wack ass album."
Leena reached across the table, squeezing Scarlett's hand. "You don't need them, Scar. You're better than all this drama."
Scarlett smiled at her best friend, grateful for her support. "Thanks, Leena. I don't know what I'd do without you honestly."
They finished their brunch, chatting about lighter topics as they paid the bill and gathered their things. Scarlett felt a bit lighter, having vented her frustrations to someone trustworthy. But as they stepped out of the restaurant and onto the busy LA street, Scarlett's relief was short-lived.
"Is that... Xolo?" Leena whispered, nudging Scarlett with her elbow.
Scarlett looked up, her breath catching in her throat as she saw Xolo approaching from the opposite direction, accompanied by his co-star, Tanner Buchanan. Xolo looked effortlessly cool in a casual tee and jeans, his lips spreading into a surprised grin when he spotted her. Tanner, on the other hand, his eyes immediately locked onto Leena with unmistakable interest.
"Hey," Xolo said as they came to a stop in front of each other, his voice slightly awkward.
"Hey," Scarlett replied, trying to keep her tone casual. "In the mood for an omelet?"
"Yeah," Xolo said, rubbing the back of his neck. "We just wrapped up a shoot nearby and thought we'd grab some food."
Meanwhile, Tanner's attention was fully on Leena. "Hi, I'm Tanner." he replied smoothly, offering her his hand.
Leena giggled, shaking his hand. "Leena. I'm Scarlett's bandmate."
Scarlett glanced at Xolo, feeling a strange mix of emotions. It was the first time they'd seen each other since that meeting. They hadn't even texted since exchanging numbers, each of them apparently too busy to reach out.
"I'm sorry I haven't been in touch," she said, breaking the silence. "It's been... a lot these past few weeks."
"Same here," Xolo said, his tone understanding. "Filming's been non-stop. But, you know, maybe we could hang out sometime. Just as friends," he added quickly.
Scarlett hesitated, Klaus flashing through her mind. It had been six months since their breakup, and she hadn't really put herself out there since. Leena's words of wisdom rang in her mind. Who knows? It could be fun. "Yeah, that sounds good," she agreed, her smile genuine.
Xolo grinned, clearly relieved. "Great. I'll text you, and we can figure something out."
As they exchanged a few more pleasantries, Scarlett noticed Leena and Tanner already engrossed in conversation, Tanner leaning in a bit too close, and Leena clearly not minding one bit. Scarlett cleared her throat.
"We should get going," she said, grabbing her best friend, who reluctantly pulled herself away from Tanner.
Leena's eyes lingered on Tanner. "It was nice meeting you."
"Likewise, Leena," Tanner replied.
Xolo watched as the girl's scampered away. Tanner shoved his phone into his face displaying Leena's name in his contacts.
"Really?" Xolo said, heading into the restaurant without him.
Tanner followed quickly behind. "What? She's hot."
