✶ Scarlett
The skyscrapers of New York City loomed over Amour as they arrived for the Governors Ball, the excitement of the event dampened by the unspoken tension that had been festering within the group. Since the incident in the studio, the atmosphere had been thick with unresolved conflict. No one had dared to address it. Margaret acted as though it had never happened, carrying on with rehearsals and interviews as if nothing was amiss. Jenny and Catelyn were visibly torn, caught between loyalty to their bandmates and a desire to avoid further confrontation. Meanwhile, Leena was on a warpath, her anger simmering beneath the surface, directed at everyone except Scarlett.
Scarlett herself felt a gnawing sadness take root in her chest. Her days had begun to blend together into a monotonous slideshow of rehearsals, interviews, and performances. The joy she once found in her work had dimmed, replaced by a growing sense of depression that she couldn't seem to shake. She felt disconnected, not just from the group, but from herself. Her phone chimed:
Xolo
I'll be watching Gov Ball from the West CoastShe smiled to herself, sending her thanks to him before they were due to get into their starting positions.
As they took the stage at Governors Ball, the energy from the crowd did little to lift Scarlett's spirits. They had just finished their final group performance, and she was more than ready to retreat backstage and try to relax, maybe lose herself in her lyrics. But just as she was about to step off the stage, a familiar melody began to play through the speakers, freezing her in place.
Scarlett's heart skipped a beat, her blood turning to ice as Margaret's voice echoed through the arena. The melody was unmistakable—Scarlett had heard it countless times before, played it on repeat in her head while perfecting the lyrics and melody. It was the song from her upcoming album, a track she had poured her soul into. But now, it was Margaret who was singing it, claiming it as her own in front of thousands of people.
She turned, her eyes wide with shock and horror as she watched Margaret take the spotlight. Every note that left Margaret's mouth felt like a knife twisting in Scarlett's gut. This was her song, her creation, and it was being stolen right before her eyes.
How the hell did she even get into her song journal—? The memory of her notepad flying from her and hands and into the wall after she shoved her flashed in her mind.
As Margaret continued to sing, a smug smile played on her lips, one that didn't go unnoticed by Scarlett. The look in Margaret's eyes as she glanced at Scarlett said it all. This was deliberate. A calculated move to undermine Scarlett, to take what was rightfully hers.
Scarlett felt her anger boil over, bubbling up from the pit of her stomach and coursing through her veins like wildfire. Every bit of frustration, sadness, and betrayal she had felt over the past weeks came rushing to the surface, and before she could stop herself, she snapped.
With a surge of adrenaline, Scarlett stormed toward Margaret as she descended the stage, her vision clouded with rage. She didn't even think as she grabbed a chunk of Margaret's hair, yanking her back with a force that surprised even her. The sudden attack took Margaret completely off guard, and the next thing Scarlett knew, they were both on the ground, a chaotic brawl breaking out in front of their horrified staff.
Margaret shrieked, clawing at Scarlett in a desperate attempt to free herself, but Scarlett was relentless, her anger fueling her every move. It wasn't until she felt hands pulling her away, the voices of the crew shouting for them to stop, that she realized just how far she had gone. Several staff members rushed in, struggling to separate the two women as they thrashed and fought against each other.
"Let me go!" Scarlett screamed, her voice raw with emotion, as she was finally pulled off of Margaret. "You talentless bitch! That's my song!" Her chest heaved with heavy breaths, her hands still trembling with the remnants of her fury. She looked at Margaret, who was being helped up by another crew member, and saw the same fury mirrored in her eyes.
As she was dragged away from the scene, Scarlett could hear the murmurs and gasps from the crowd, the shocked whispers of those who had witnessed the entire ordeal. She didn't care. All she could think about was the betrayal, the blatant theft of her hard work, and the fact that Margaret had crossed a line that could never be uncrossed.
But as the adrenaline began to fade, Scarlett felt a deep sense of dread settle in. This was far from over.
