20 | The Halloween Queen

The weekend of Jess's Halloween party had arrived. Back when all five of us were teens in high school, whenever we were going to attend a party or spend time with any of our classmates from our grade outside. Most of the time, Peyton, Tristan, Samuel, Calvin and I would ride together in the same car to get to the places we needed to go. After a while it sort of became a tradition for us, I wouldn't be surprised if tonight is going to be any different.

Peyton, Tristan and I had finished getting ready and putting on our designated costumes about fifteen minutes ago. Now we are watching our favorite TV show in the living room while we wait for Calvin and Samuel to arrive at my house so we can go to Jess's house. According to the text message we received from Calvin in our group chat informing us that Samuel and him will arrive at our house in the next twelve minutes.

"Bree and baby, I will be back." Peyton informed us as she stood up from the couch. "I will be in the bathroom, if you need me."

"Okay babe." Tristan responded, reaching for the TV remote, hitting pause on the show so his girlfriend doesn't miss anything.

I saw my dog leaving the kitchen and then she climbed onto the couch and she laid down on my lap which instantly brought a smile to my face.

"No matter how much we watch this TV show, I will never get tired of watching it." Tristan spoke, setting down the TV remote down on the couch.

"You and I both." I said, starting to pet my dog's head.

"I need to give it to you, Young Sheldon is a good show, I won't try to deny it." Tristan said, looking at me over his shoulder.

"You made a good decision there, Tristan." I said as the doorbell rang, causing both of the dogs to start barking.

"That must be Calvin and Samuel." Tristan said, standing up from the couch. "I will get the front door, Aubree."

Tristan started making his way toward the front door and he opened it. "Hello Calvin and Samuel, nice to see you again, please don't just stand, come in. I hope both of you are ready to party."

We took a couple of pictures in the front yard before it was time for us to leave for Jess's Halloween party. Calvin volunteered to be the designated driver for the entire night. For that reason, Calvin drove us to Jess's house in his car, Tristan was sitting in the passenger's seat. Meanwhile, Peyton, Samuel and I had sat down on the backseat. In the background, there was Halloween's music playing to get us into the Halloween's spirit for Jess's party.

It took me by surprise to see that Calvin still remembers the direction of Jess's house after being away from California all these years. Plus on top of that, being back in Calvin's car, a lot of unwelcome memories from all the times that were here during our former relationship found a temporary place in my brain.

Calvin pulled into the driveway just as it was stated in the invitation. Jess's driveway already had multiple cars, some of them were familiar to me. As soon as I heard that Calvin had turned his car off, I was the first one who hopped down from his car.

I closed the car's door behind me and started heading towards the front door. "Aubree, wait for me!" I heard my best friend saying my name behind me.

"I haven't seen you walk so fast since high school." Peyton said as she caught up to me. "Are you okay? You got down from Calvin's car so fast."

"Good to hear that I am still fast like the old days." I said, ringing the doorbell. "I am okay now, I just needed to get down. There were so many memories."
