I sat at the dining table, sipping my coffee and staring blankly at my phone. I have been checking it almost for 100th time this morning, in hope maybe she texted back. But so far, nothing. I was starting to think she had ignored me. Did I take it on my ego? Yes. Noone can ignore Pranav Malhotra. But she did!!
But why the hell she liked that picture from 1 year ago. I remember that picture was taken on my parents anniversary party. "What's going in her head?" I thought in my mind.
Just as I was deep in thought, my brother Aarav plopped down beside me, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Whose text are you waiting for?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"No one's" I tried to brush it off.
"Come on, Pranav bhai, I've seen you checking your phone every five seconds," he teased. "Who is it? Is it a secret crush?"
"W.. what secret crush. Shut up, Aarav. It's just work stuff."
"Sure, sure. Work stuff. You don't have anything other than work. Should i find a girl for you bhai?" He said.
I choked on my food.
"Aaram se" Maa came and gave me the glass of water.
"Are you crazy. I don't need anyone." I said to Aarav
"Sahi to keh raha hai Aarav. Ladki milegi tabhi to kal ko teri shadi hogi na" Maa spoke in support of him.I pushed my chair back and stood up "I need some fresh air."
"No you need some fun in your love life" he said.
I didn't respond. I turned and walked away from the dining table, leaving Aarav's laughter behind.
I made my way to the balcony, taking a deep breath of the cool morning air. I leaned against the railing, "Secret crush that too her, Rubbish. She and me. Never."
I stood there for some minutes then the phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out, and saw Kartik name on the screen. I accepted the call and said, "Hello. How's going?"
"Hi bro!! Yeah, everything's good. How about you?" Kartik replied.
"I'm good, What's up? Why did you call?" I asked.
"Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something. Can you come over today?" Kartik said.
"Sure, I can come over. What's going on?" I asked being curious.
"I'll tell you when you get here. See you soon!" Kartik said, ending the call.
