"Dad!"

KAIDA — remembered it like it was yesterday. She remembered her screams that echoed through the quiet night air, piercing through the air like and arrow, and her tears that filled her vision as her father collapsed before her.

She recalled watching her father fall to the ground and disappear in the tall grass, killed by the hand of the very goblins that had once killed her mother.

"Dad!" She choked, her voice cracking with the sudden cry.

She remembered waiting for the goblins to disappear from sight, becoming engulfed by the shadows and fading away before she rushed forward. She fell roughly to her knees, desperately clearing the over grown greenery from her view and whimpering as the man's limp body came into sight.

The girls vision had blurred as she realized it was too late, that he had already slipped through the fingers of life and fallen into the grasp of death.

Then the girl broke.

She shattered, tears streaming down her cheeks as she began to panic, throwing down every possible spell that crossed her mind in hopes of reviving the man that had raised her.

With each spell the grass around her grew a brighter shade of green, flowers sprouting from the dirt and shining in the bright moon light that was casted through the canopy of the trees. Her hands shook as she choked on her emotions, the spells doing nothing to save the man, but everything to the greenery around him.

Pain tugged at her heart and tears formed in the corner of her eyes as she stopped her attempts to bring the man back. The girls body grew heavy and she soon collapsed just as he had, weeping into his chest as she rested her forehead on him. Her body shook with each heart filled cry and she remained the way she laid until the sun rose.

The thought still gave her shivers as she looked back to it, the memory still making her eyes glaze over with tears. And as she returned once again to where her father laid just as she did every year, she finds it particularly difficult to keep it together.

But before she could lay down the flower that she held on to, she's taken aboard a nautiloid, leaving the flower to get lost in the grass.

Super short chapter but not a big deal since it's just a prologue! I'm keeping the same plot, but doing some rewriting because I felt like things were moving too fast. So for those of you who read the last chapter I had published, I took it down and am staring over. I like the pace so much better now and I'm so excited to continue writing!
