You've been spending time with Logan, but you weren't alone, he spoke in great detail about how much he loved Laura. You knew she was his daughter, but her opinion really did matter to him. You were just lucky that she knew you before, not well, but you were a trusted adult. The three of you went to go see the new Inside Out movie. You really liked the movie, and Logan even held your hand throughout a good majority of the film.
Another night you went out to eat with him, to the local Applebee's, Laura pointed out a drink that she looked cool and told you to get it. You were surprised by the alcohol suggestion from the twelve-year-old, but it also had candy sharks. Logan even asked for some extra on the side for Laura, and that's when she started to reveal what was under the mask. She started about school about everything going on in her world. She had drama with friends, she and Ellie went to the same school and were truly best friends. Then she moved on quickly to her new game that she got for doing chores, saying that it was the new thing that Logan made up. Later in the car, when Laura had her headphones on, he further explained. When he had his monthly therapy with Laura, her therapist told him that the reason she was stealing from stores was she was really struggling with feeling secure. That because she goes back and forth from his to Jenny's, his ex-wife, houses. This was his first monthly session with Laura and when she goes over to her mom's, she'll show up to the session.
You felt your heart warm as he showed how much he cared about his daughter. He was clearly a very good dad, and another green flag. You really admired his ability to accept and reflect, but he also revealed that he's been in therapy since he was 14. He watched his father die and it completely traumatized him. He really struggled for a long time but when he got to high school, he found designing classes that opened up the door for his career. You really enjoyed spending time with him, he was so open. Being with younger men is like wearing training wheels, you get to date a man who acts like boys and then you met an emotionally mature older man, who was a great dad. You wish that it wasn't the bare minimum, but standards are low, and he exceeds them.
Apart of you was still struggling, you struggled maintaining other relationships because the more positive the experience the more you had to lose. But every time you said something self-deprecating or he felt you push away, it was like he carried band-aids on him, because every time your soft hands hit the jagged ground, he was there to help. The funny thing was that you weren't even together yet, the wheels haven't even taken off the ground, but he already made a promise that he wouldn't push you into the dirt.
When you got to the shop that night, you decided to invite them inside, your grandma Mary greeting them and smiling over at Laura before mentioning something about cookies. Your grandma made an excuse to hug Logan as she greeted him, squeezing his biceps while she hugs him before moving back. You roll your eyes at your grandma before she ushers Laura to the kitchen and leaves the two of you to wonder off together. You slowly lead him to your room, stopping in the hall to look at your family pictures, you explained the different pictures, the ones at the theme parks, the awkward professional family photos, the sweet candid pictures of you or one of your siblings, smiling, sticking their tongue out, wearing a Halloween costume, a first day of school picture. Then you brought Logan up to your room before closing the door behind him. He stepped further into the room, his hands behind his back as he looked around.
