Newt wouldn't let me come to give Jacob the eggshells. He said it would be too obvious if a child was with him. We had put them in a spare case and Newt was going to bump into Jacob on his way to work and make sure he grabs the wrong one.
Tina and I were waiting at the dock for him with his magic case. I didn't like being away from him. That's really how we got into this mess. I didn't want Newt to leave again and so I snuck into the case. He was so angry. The ministry were going to be even more angry at me. I should've just stayed with Bunny.
The crowds around the boat came and went as people boarded. But Newt wasn't back yet. Maybe he got taken. The bad men were taking him away and we were just sat around waiting for him.
"We should go find him," I said.
"He'll be coming soon doing worry, the factory is a ways walk from here and you've still got a while before the boat leaves," Tina said calmly. It didn't matter what time the boat left if Newt was taken. I wasn't going to leave without him.
I looked up at the clock on one of the pillars nearby. Tina would never let me go but I also think she wouldn't use magic in a muggle place. When the big hand got to the top I was going to leg it and find Newt.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
I ran and Tina didn't even have time to grab me. I could hear her running after me. But then she stopped. I turned to see why and ran straight into Newt. I hugged him and he picked me up. "Where were you going?" he laughed.
"I thought they'd got you," I said quietly.
We walked back over to Tina.
"Well it's been..." Newt started awkwardly.
"Hasn't it," Tina smiled back. "Listen Newt I wanted to thank you."
"What on earth for?"
"Well, you know if you hadn't said all those nice things to Madam Picquery about me, I wouldn't be back on the investigative team now." Tina smiled. Newt put me down so he could pick up his case. "Well I can't think of anyone that I'd rather have investigating us," He smiled back. I'd rather have no one but that wasn't an option so Tina was second best.
"Well try not to need investigating for a bit."
"I will. Quiet life for us from now on. Back to the ministry... deliver my manuscript... everything in-between."
"I'll look out for it, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them," Tina said confidently and then got a bit more shy. "Does Leta Lestrange like to read?" I'd never heard of her before and Newt looked just as confused. "The girls whose picture you carry," she added.
"I don't really know what Leta likes these days because... People change... I've changed. I think. Maybe a little," Newt stumbled. The ships horn made us all jump. "I'll send you a copy of my book if I may."
"I'd like that," Tina smiled shyly. Newt brushed a strand of hair out of her face. They stared at each other for a few moments before Newt suddenly turned away.
We walked a few paces before he changed his mind and walked back over to Tina. "I'm sorry how would you feel if I gave you your copy in person?" Tina gave the biggest smile I'd seen her smile yet. "I'd like that very much," she nodded.
Newt was grinning too and this time when we walked away we made it onto the ship. I waved to Tina as we walked up the Gangplank.
Since the ministry was sending us home, we had two tickets this time so I didn't have to be in the case. The guard just looked us up and down and then let us walk to our room. We had five days before we'd be home.
I ran straight to our little window and stared out. I couldn't see anything interesting.
"Raven come sit for a minute," Newt said in the voice he used when he had bad news. I sat down on the bed next to him. "The ministry is going to meet us when we get back," he started. "So we might not be going him straight away. It'll be like what the American ministry was like but they won't hurt, you we have different rules. You just need to stay calm and answer their questions. You make a good impression the next few years will be easier.
These next few days are going to be as free as you're going to be for the rest of your life..."
