As we approach the farm, it was incredibly clear Vanya was right. Something was going on, and it wasn't the usual bullshit gut feeling. The entire farm, as well as some of the fields surrounding it, was covered in snow. It was summer. A large cloud sat overhead of the barn, lightening striking into it every few seconds.
"You think whatever's going on inside is causing the cold front?" Diego asks as we all get out of the car, Five helping me, gently checking over my forehead before we turn our attention to the large lightening cloud.
Five shrugs, "Well... the correlation is high." He mutters as Vanya runs towards the barn. As she does, a blonde woman charges out of the doors with a large gun in her hands. I'm betting that's Sissy.
"Sissy!" Vanya calls, and I exhale. Knew it. "Sissy!" I share a look with Klaus as we all stand around the car, letting Vanya take the lead in this situation.
"Get back!" The woman snaps, pointing her gun at us. "All of you! Just get the hell back!" Five steps slightly in front of me, but I frown, taking his hand and moving out to stand beside him.
"Sissy!" Vanya calls, holding her hands out in a calming manner. "Hey! Hey! What's wrong?"
"Carl..." Sissy replies, not keeping her gaze off of all of us. I glance back at Klaus, who had his hands up in a surrender.
Vanya exhales, "What did he do to you?" She asks, the anger in her voice obvious. I'm assuming this 'Carl' isn't a very nice guy.
"He's..." Sissy swallows thickly, shaking her head. "He's dead." Oh. "Harlan tossed him aside like a rag doll, same way you sent those policemen flyin'. What did you do to him?" She snaps, "Vanya what the hell did you do to my son?"
"We don't have time for this Vanya." Diego says, heading forwards. Sissy turns to aim towards Diego with a glare on her eyes.
"Where do you think you're goin', mister?" She snaps, tilting her head as if silently challenging him.
Diego exhales, "To save your son..." I shake my head, and Diego frowns, before stepping back a bit. Vanya had to do this alone.
"Look, Sissy," Vanya smiles slightly, "I found my family." She gestures back to all of us, "These are my brothers and my sisters."
Sissy looks around at us all with glossy eyes and laboured breathing, she swallows, looking over at Vanya. "Were you lyin' to me the whole time?"
"Of course not," Vanya shakes her head, taking a tentative step forwards. "Look, I didn't know who I was. But I do now. And we are not the monsters that they say we are." Sissy's eyes find mine, and I offer a soft nod. "We did not kill the president. We are not terrorists. We're not here to hurt anyone."
Sissy exhales, "Then..." She shakes her head, licking her lips and furrowing her eyebrows. "Who are you?"
Vanya nods, clenching her fists by her sides. "The only one who can help Harlan." Sissy nods slowly, before leading us all towards the barn.
My hand stays in Five's, his grip tightening slightly as Vanya opens the barn doors. We all head in, widening our eyes as we take in the sight. There was a little boy floating in the sky, wriggling around and gasping for air in the middle of an energy surge of some sorts.
"Harlan!" Vanya cries out, "Harlan, it's me, Vanya! Look, Harlan, so know you're really scared, but I can help you!" I chew my lower lip, stepping slightly closer to Five as I watch the scene unfold. "I need you to listen to me, okay? Can you do that?"
Vanya's eyes turn white, and she steps inside the energy surge. "Careful!" Five mutters, gripping my hand tighter as she walks towards Harlan cautiously.
