As we reach the area in which apparently Reginald lives, it had gotten dark, and very cold. That was the only part of 1963 fashion I despised, there were barely any winter female dresses, you just had to buy a large coat to put over the top, which I didn't have.
"This is it..." Five mutters, getting out of the passengers seat and looking up at the old looking building. I get out of the back seat, looking up at it with furrowed eyebrows, this wasn't exactly what I imagined.
Diego stops the engine and gets out, slamming the door behind him as Five and I walk around the car and head towards the building. "D.S. Umbrella... this is it." He nods, looking around.
The three of us make our way towards the front doors, heading down a fairly clean stone path. The building was large, looking about three stories high. It was white and had glass windows along the front, as well as glass doors. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it looked more like a hospital than a manufacturing company.
Five pauses, and so Diego and I do too, looking at him with a small frown. "You okay?" Diego asks, and Five nods, shaking himself and heading towards the front doors.
"Yeah." He mumbles, stopping and putting his hands in his pockets. I stop beside Five, watching as Diego pulls out the knife he'd grabbed earlier and begins picking the lock. I frown, noticing how Five's face scrunched up. He was not fine.
"How long has it been since you've seen the old man?" Diego asks, his attention turning directly to the doors as he tries to pry them open. I peer inside, crossing my arms and shivering slightly as the wind picks up.
It seemed empty inside, and very dark. Almost as if it was abandoned. Five leans against the edge of the door, shrugging. "Forty-five years." He exhales, pursing his lips and nodding slowly.
"That's a trip." Diego chuckles quietly, crouching down to get a better angle as he picks the lock of the door. I furrow my eyebrows, pausing as something inside moves.
I blink, gazing at that specific spot, but when nothing moves again, I decide to just take it as a sign that I was over tired or it was just dark and I was freaking myself out.
Five sighs, crossing his arms and closing his eyes as he leans against the wall. "No kidding." He mutters, licking his lower lip. A moment of silence passes before Five takes a deep breath, "You know, when I was stuck out there in the apocalypse, there wasn't a day that went by where I didn't hear his voice in my head."
I glance over at him, my face softening at how destroyed Five looked. How broken they had both looked when they realised their father was present at the assassination of Kennedy. "What was he saying?" Diego asks, his voice oddly void of any emotion. He wasn't angry, he wasn't upset, he was just... there.
Five looks over at Diego as he leans back, giving up on picking the lock. "'I told you so'..." He whispers, glancing over at me. I furrow my eyebrows softly, offering a small smile. He smiles back shortly, before turning back to Diego with a sigh.
Diego only scoffs, nodding and turning to Five. "Well, if dad's here, he's never met you before," He shrugs, tilting his head. "So he can't say 'I told you so'." Five shakes his head, grinning sarcastically.
"I'm sure he'll find a way." He sighs, turning back to the lock as he realises Diego's given up. With a small hum, he spacial jumps to the other side of the door, unlocking it and walking back out beside me.
Diego clears his throat, nodding. "Right... gotta remember that." He stands up, glancing over at me with a joking smile. "Easy to forget."
I shrug, smirking slightly. "I didn't forget, I was just amused at your attempt to pick a lock that was clearly too small for the blade of that knife." I wink, before heading inside. Five grins, walking in behind me.
