Rona stirred from her sleep, rubbing her eyes as the morning light filtered through the curtains. The familiar sounds of chatter and laughter echoed from the kitchen, signaling the start of a new day. She stretched lazily, enjoying the brief moment of peace before the day’s chaos inevitably began.
But something felt off. The chatter was louder than usual, and it wasn’t just her mother’s voice she could hear. Curious, Rona slipped out of bed and made her way to the kitchen, where the smell of freshly brewed coffee and breakfast greeted her. As she turned the corner, she froze in her tracks.
Sitting at the breakfast table, looking far too pleased with himself, was Suho. He was chatting animatedly with her parents, his expression overly sweet, as if butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. The moment his eyes landed on Rona, he flashed her a grin that was both mischievous and knowing.
"Good morning, Rona!" Suho greeted her with exaggerated cheerfulness. "Sleep well?"
Rona narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Why are you here so early in the morning?" she asked, her voice tinged with annoyance. It wasn’t like Suho to show up unannounced, especially not at the crack of dawn.
Suho’s smile widened, and Rona instantly knew he was up to something. "Oh, I just missed my dear sister and thought I’d drop by for breakfast," he said, his tone dripping with false innocence. "And since we’re both working at the same place, I figured I’d offer you a ride to work. It’s only right, don’t you think?"
Before Rona could call out his obvious bluff, her mother, who had been quietly beaming at Suho’s words, clapped her hands together. "What a wonderful idea! You’re so lucky to have such a considerate brother, Rona. It’s not every day you get a ride to work from someone as busy as Suho."
Rona glanced at her mother, then at her father, who was seated at the table, quietly sipping his coffee. His expression was one of approval, which only added to her frustration. She knew there was no getting out of this now. If her father had given his silent blessing, refusing would only make things more difficult.
With a resigned sigh, Rona muttered, "I’ll go get ready."
Suho watched her retreat with barely concealed amusement. He knew how much Rona valued her independence, and he couldn’t resist having a little fun with her situation. After all, it wasn’t every day that he got to tease his fiercely independent cousin-turned-sister. And considering the events of the past couple of days, Suho figured she could use a little light-hearted distraction.
As Rona headed back to her room, she mentally prepared herself for the inevitable banter that would ensue during the car ride. Suho had always had a knack for getting under her skin, and she could already anticipate the smug remarks he would make about her "lucky" situation.
When she returned to the kitchen, dressed and ready for the day, Suho was waiting by the door, car keys in hand. He gave her another overly sweet smile, and Rona had to resist the urge to roll her eyes.
"Shall we?" Suho asked, holding the door open for her.
Rona shot him a look of mild irritation as she grabbed her bag. "Let’s just get this over with," she muttered.
The car ride was surprisingly quiet, though the tension in the air was palpable. Rona stared out the window, her mind racing with thoughts about the day ahead. She couldn’t afford to let her guard down, not with Sehun lurking around, probably still eager to discuss the marriage proposal that had caught her completely off guard.
Suho, sensing Rona’s unease, finally broke the silence. "You know, you don’t have to be so serious all the time," he said, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye.
