My mother often told me a story as a child. A story about how the world we know used to be called Earth. Apparently, Earth was a world filled with the greatest gifts of nature, with the purest flora and fauna. It was perfect, and nothing could ever harm it. However, the human species kept evolving. As it evolved, it strived to be the perfect creation of nature.
After years of evolution and advancement, humanity achieved perfection. Humanity became the most advanced, innovative species on Earth. But unfortunately, The Earth paid the price for humanity's conquest. The pure breathtaking flora and fauna that it used to have was no more. All the Earth could do now was to start anew.
Years after the humans reached their goal an asteroid fell from the skies above fell into the Earth's atmosphere, clearing everything in it's path. Every flower, plant, animal, and human had died, rendering every thing extinct.. What was once the pride of a galaxy, had turned into an unhabitable mass of ash and sulfur. What needed to happen in order for the world to recover, has happened.
However, from the ash and sulfur, raised Surtr. A human, now a monster made from ash and fire. After waking up from the ash, Surtr started to walk, in search for other signs of survivors. He was alone. He didn't know how he survived. But he knew that the ginormous asteroid wreaked havok near his home. All he could remember from his life, was that he was once a blacksmith in charge of preparing weapons and equipment for the village.
For years and years, Surtr didn't stop his search for survivors. And while searching, he watched as the Earth slowly healed itself from the damage left by the meteor. After a million years of recovery and rejuvenation, flowers bloom, and birds chirp once again. Although the world was healing, he was not. Surtr was stuck as a mutated human monster, constructed only of ash and fire. He did not require any sustenance, instead, what fueled him was his brewing determination and desire to find a survivor. Year after year, he walks all around the world, until he returns back to where he started, near the asteroid. However, he continues to walk without stopping.
Until one fateful day, he climbed a frozen mountain, hoping to use it as a vantage point to search for any sign of life. He has climbed this mountain multiple times before, with the same goal of using it as a vantage point. While searching, he noticed movement in the snow.
And for the first time in a million years, Surtr ran once again. His mind was filled with the thought of being with another person once again. Despite this, Surtr kept his distance, and sat on a frozen dead tree.
The snow continued to shift, as a silhouette in the shape of a female human body starts to form. Surtr watched intently, his flames starting to grow stronger. Until the silhouette stops moving, and the snow began to turn into an figure made of ice. The ice figure tried to stand up, but then it noticed Surtr.
"Ahh!" The ice figure started to scream at the sitting Surtr. She began to throw snow at him, but before it even hits Surtr, the snow melts. Surtr sits there on the now burning dead tree, speechless, surprised.
She started to run towards the river atleast five feet away, and as she steps on the water, it began to freeze.
"What in the hell are you!?" The ice figure screams.
Surtr doesn't answer, but he takes a deep breath, and replies "I'm the same as you, uhh... miss." He tries to smile.
"I'm not like you! I'm a human!" The ice figure angrily responds, seemingly disgusted at what Surtr suggests.
"That's exactly what I'm talking about. I used to be human. Now, I don't know what I am." Surtr replies, his smile now disappearing. The ice figure was quiet, she simply doesn't believe Surtr.
"Don't believe me, miss?" Surtr asks the ice figure. "Look into the ice beneath you." Surtr tells the ice figure.
The ice figure looks down and sees herself in the ice. She then continues to look at her arms, and now touches her face. She had become what seemed to be an ice sculpture.
