A U T H O R' S P O V—
In the cozy, sunlit kitchen, the air is filled with the warm scent of vanilla and freshly brewed coffee. The woman sits at the small table, her daughter perched on a cushioned chair in front of her.
Sunlight filters through the window, casting a gentle glow on the little girl's soft curls. The woman is delicately brushing her daughter's hair, humming a soft tune as she works.
"Look at you, sweetheart," she says, her voice tender and filled with affection. "You’re going to look so pretty with this ponytail."
The little girl giggles, her tiny hands reaching up to touch the bow in her hair. "I like it, Mommy! It makes me look like a princess, right?"
"Absolutely," the woman replies, securing the final elastic band. She leans in and kisses her daughter’s forehead. "You’re my little princess every day, but now you’re a princess with a beautiful ponytail."
The daughter beams, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Thank you, Mommy! Can we take a picture?"
The woman laughs softly and nods. "Of course, let’s capture this pretty princess moment."
They pose together, the woman holding her phone and the little girl grinning with pride. The moment is filled with simple, heartfelt happiness—a snapshot of love and the special bond they share.
The little girl darts out the back door, her laughter echoing as she splashes through puddles in the yard.
The woman, still in her light sweater, chases after her with a mix of amusement and concern. Suddenly, the sky darkens, and heavy raindrops begin to fall, turning the vibrant garden into a blur of gray.
“Sweetie, come back!” the woman calls out, her voice growing anxious as the rain intensifies. “It’s starting to rain really hard!”
The little girl, unbothered and full of energy, continues to run, her giggles swallowed by the thunderous downpour. The woman's heart races as she tries to catch up, her feet slipping on the wet grass.
Without warning, the scenery shifts dramatically.
A dense, dark forest, shrouded in mist and shadows, appears at the edge of the yard. The trees loom ominously, their twisted branches reaching out like skeletal fingers. The forest was never there before; it seems to have materialized out of nowhere.
“Stop!” the woman screams, panic rising in her voice. “Don’t go in there!”
The little girl, oblivious to the growing danger, dashes towards the forest’s edge, her tiny silhouette barely visible against the darkening backdrop.
