The Wonder Child

A 8 year old child skipped down the sidewalk, but tripped, and fell. Scraping her knee on the floor she muttered out a curse, but she was 8 after all, so she couldn't help but shed a tear. A man walked up to her and asked "where's your parents?" And she looked up, wide eyed.

"I- um.. they're at home.. yea, home." She stuttered and mumbled. The truth was, her parents are dead. And she was a orphan, but she tried to act like she wasn't.

"Okay, where's home?" She then squinted, and thought he was trying to do something so she quickly shifted into a cat and ran across the road, not before almost getting hit by a car.

As she landed back on the other path, she shifted back to her child self, and the man looked so confused, so he just walked away. She sat on a swing, but then a boy approached her.

"Hi, you look lonely.. wanna sit with us?" A boy with a crooked, giddy smile and ruffled hair asked, and she looked up, to be met with a tall lanky boy.

"Um.. sure?" She couldn't even mumble out the word sure before getting dragged over as she grunted, being put next to a seat.

"Soo.. what's your name?" He asked.

"Um.. Jax." She mumbled and sat down.

"Nice! Mines Klaus" He smiled again, but this time, more softly and not making it look like a forced one this time. "How old are you Jax?" Another boy asked, a blonde boy with a slight build. "Eight.."  and he nodded, "we're all 9." He then said.

Klaus then spoke up, "that's Luther, he's a bit of a strict boy but eh. The girl next to him is Allison, she's really nice, and the boy next to her is Diego. He's shy as hell! But anyway, the boy next to him is Ben, also really shy, and the boy next to me, is Five. He's always grumpy"

"L- like the number?" She mumbled. "Yep, he didn't like his name" "oh, five doesn't sound bad though, so, eh"

"Incase you didn't know, we are the umbrella academy, kids born with special abilities." Luther said, straightening his back.

--
-First person-

I nod and ask, "like, superpowers?" And they all nod.

"Oh, nice" I smile slightly but look back down at the floor. Then a man yelled, "Children! Back inside! Breaks over!" And they all leapt up and ran across the street, not before Klaus waved bye. I wave a bit but drop my hand and walk back to the swing. It was about 5:30, so it was starting to get dark.

I shifted into a puppy and waddled my paws across the street, and slept in the alley next to the mansion the kids went in.

-Morning-

I woke up to someone kicking me lightly, so it didn't hurt.

"Wake up pup, go home." I heard someone say, and I open my eyes, forgetting I was a dog, but I saw Luther standing over me and he accidentally stood on my tail as he walked back, and I retaliated and snarled at him, and he backed up a bit.

"Go home mutt" and I pretended to pounce at him, but I didn't, and he flinched and moved back a bit more, then his brother, Klaus came running down the alley and he screamed, "PUPPY!!" And the rest of his siblings came running out. I mentally sighed and sat back down.

"Awh" Allison cooed, and Klaus started petting my head, 'how do dogs like this shhhhh- oh nevermind.' I thought until Klaus scratched behind my ear and I lightly kicked my hind foot.

"Can we keep it?" Klaus begged Luther, "No! It tried to bite me" he grumbled, "i don't blame it Luther." Five said, slightly smiling down at the dog.

"children! Back inside immediately!" Their "dad" called. And I didn't mean to, but I shifted back to my child self, and klaus's hand was still on my head, while I rested on my knees, and Klaus jumped back "Jax?" But he got rushed inside by his siblings. And I ran to the park again after I shifted to a dog again. I curled up under a bench at the park and tried to sleep again.

"Is this you Jax? Or just a different stray dog?" Klaus mumbled, and pat me, sitting next to me as I opened my eyes.

"Jax?" He mumbled, and I shifted back to my child self, forgetting the table was only short, so I hit my head on it. "Ah-" I muttered and rolled out from under the table, and finally saw the others sitting at the chairs. It was like.. midnight, why were they outside?

"So you have powers too?" Allison asked, and tilted her head.

"I don't know.. one day I just shifted into a cat. I got scared, but now I can control it." I mumbled.

"Okayy so you do." Klaus said and jumped a bit.

"We aren't the only ones! Yippe!" He giggled and I groaned, it's too early for this.

Klaus told his Father about me and next thing I knew, I woke up in a room. Not my room, I didn't even have a room what am I saying.

Then a woman came in, "Hello dear, come down for breakfast?" She asked, I'm guessing she was a mum.

"I- umm.. where am I?" I mumbled.

"The umbrella academy of course, now come down, you must be hungry"

I wondered down the stairs with her, her hand resting on my back. Then I realised i was in a uniform. It had a little badge with an umbrella on it. I mean, it's called the umbrella academy for a reason. duh.

She guided me to a seat, I was in the middle of Klaus, and Five.

"sit." The man at the other end of the table ordered, and like dogs, they all sat, and did aswell. "Welcome number Eight to the umbrella academy." He also said, and started eating.

We all ate, Klaus made cigarettes under the table, Diego carved shapes into his chair with his knives, and I fiddled with the ends of the skirt I had on.

Reginald Hargreeves' Death Day.

I walk along a sidewalk, the same sidewalk I walked on when I was 8, and scraped my knee.. and then I met the umbrella academy.

I saw on a tv display that someone died, and I thought it was someone random, but I thought 'why would they put a random persons death on a tv, it's pointless.' but I read it,

sir reginald hargreeves has died.
