-next day-

Shadow stayed by Sonic's side as the blue hedgehog squirmed with the nightmares that kept returning and the clearly very uncomfortable and high fever that Shadow was trying to bring down at least a little so Sonic wasn't so miserable, this fever was the highest he'd seen yet and it was getting worrying but he was waiting patiently as was the others.

Sonic had been mumbling something all day but he couldn't tell what, he just tended to Sonic's fever and stood by in case something happened, everyone was downstairs and talking but he remained up here wanting to protect and keep his little brother safe.

Suddenly the door opened and in walked Umbra and Darkspine, Shadow was then put on alert but he hid it well as he replaced the cloth on Sonic's forehead with a colder one that made Sonic shudder before relaxing a bit.

"You sure are determined." Darkspine commented, watching Shadow work.

"I'm not going to let my little brother suffer this fever alone." Shadow responded, glancing at them.

"p-pl-ease.. N-n-no.." Sonic squeaked, squirming a bit.

Darkspine walked around and observed the blue hedgehog a bit more thoroughly before putting a reluctant hand on Sonic's temple, his hand then glowed and he pulled the nightmare from Sonic's mind causing the blue hedgehog to relax some more as he slept more peacefully, at least for the time being.

"That should keep him calm for now." Darkspine said, before turning and walking away. "I am going to see what the others are doing."

With that he left the room and Umbra and Shadow were left alone to watch the blue hedgehog.

"Do you think they will ever accept him?" Umbra asked, looking at Shadow.

"Well there is always that possibility." Shadow shrugged. "But I wouldn't hold my breath, they are stubborn and they hold quite a bunch of resentment towards him but who knows maybe they will someday."

"Hopefully it's soon because he needs his family, his whole family." Umbra said, staring at Sonic who trembled from the fever.

"I wouldn't worry about it, they will make amends with each other when they are ready." Shadow assured him. "It is entirely up to them."

"Yeah," Umbra nodded. "I guess it doesn't matter since they aren't trying to kill him anymore."

"Yes," Shadow agreed with a half hearted chuckle. "I guess it is all over now."

The two smiled and continued working as their conversation went on to other things.

-later-

Sonic slowly opened his eyes but pain shot through his body once he did so making him moan from that pain, he felt severely sick and weak that he could barely move, even his eyes had a hard time keeping open.

"S-Sh-a-dow.." Sonic whispered in a weak and hoarse tone.

Suddenly someone turned and hurried over to him. "It's alright, I'm right here." The figure assured him, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Sonic recognized that voice and he automatically relaxed as he looked up at his big brother.

"W-whats w-wrong w-ith me?" Sonic asked shakily. "W-why d-do I h-hurt so m-uch?"

"Shh, just take it easy." Shadow told him in a soothing tone. "You need to rest."

"I-it h-hurts.." Sonic whimpered.

"I know, I know just relax Sonic, you'll be fine." Shadow said, very gently stroking the blue quills of his brother. "Everything will be fine, I promise."
