The transfiguration class ended, and Haerin hurried to pack her things, eager to escape the tension. Minji was the first to leave, her mind swirling with thoughts she didn’t want to confront.

As Haerin stepped into the hallway, Hanni pounced on her from behind, wrapping her arms around Haerin in a tight hug.

“Hello there, little miss prodigy! You caught us off guard, showing up in a second-year class.”

Haerin hadn’t realized that Hanni was on the other side of Minji during class. Hanni was both in awe and confused by Haerin’s abilities, much like the rest of the class, but she was also proud. Hanni had partnered with Cedric on her other side.

Haerin blinked as she looked to her side at Hanni. A small, flustered smile played on her lips. “I… I just studied a bit ahead than my peers, that’s all…”

Cedric, who had been walking beside a stoic Minji, chuckled. “As expected from a Kang,” he teased, ruffling Haerin’s hair.

Hanni with a beaming smile, hoisted Haerin up as if she weighed nothing, “Our little genius!”

“Ahk—”

Haerin’s protests came out soft, almost playful, her smile widening despite herself.

Just then, Danielle rounded the corner, spotting the group. “What’s going on here?” she asked with a grin, walking over to join them.

Before anyone could reply, a loud rumble echoed through the hallway. All eyes turned to Minji, who was already turning a deep shade of red. Her usual cool demeanor faltered, and she looked away, mumbling something under her breath.

Hanni doubled over with laughter, Cedric and Danielle joining in. Even Haerin found herself giggling, the sound light and contagious. Minji scowled, But the blush on her cheeks betrayed her embarrassment—and something more, a flutter in her stomach when she heard a certain laugh.

“Let’s just go eat,” Minji muttered, her voice gruff, as she turned and started walking away.

The others followed, still chuckling, as they made their way to the Great Hall. Haerin trailed behind, feeling a strange warmth in her chest. It wasn’t just the laughter or the friendly teasing; it was the sense of belonging that was slowly starting to take root.

The warm afternoon sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the Great Hall, casting a golden glow on the students gathered for lunch. At the Hufflepuff table to which hanni lead as they sat at a some part, an unusual mix of personalities from different houses had come together: Hanni, Haerin, Danielle, Minji, and Cedric.

Danielle’s excitement was impossible to miss. She turned to Haerin, who was sitting quietly beside her. “I still can’t believe you’ve been moved to the second-year Transfiguration class! That’s amazing, Haerin!”

Haerin offered a small, reserved smile, her emotions a swirl of pride and unease.
“It’s just for the practicals,” she said softly, her eyes flicking down to the table. “Professor Taylor-joy thought it might be a good challenge. Since I’ve been studying since summer, she said it would be a waste of time for me to repeat the basics.”

Haerin kept her true feelings hidden. The reality was that her promotion wasn’t just due to being ahead in her studies; it resulted from years of private tutoring with Her Godmother, starting when she was just eight.
