I stood there dumbfounded. I took in the familiar sight. Her black onyx hair dripped from her head and those violet-blue eyes stared into mine. I swear I could hear my heart and it would burst out of my chest at any moment.
"Here for the ball, Alar?" I heard the Baron's voice drawl.
I had to bite my own tongue back just not to stop at the cocky voice.
"Yes... Is it not obvious, Eamon?" I said.
As I took the sight of the two of them I began to notice more about Seraphina. From the girl I met 50 years ago she was no longer there... sure those piercing eyes still sought mine and that onyx black hair still cascaded down her body but... she looked stronger. Her posture stood straight and her cheekbones looked sharper and she looked better... more beautiful.
"Well... I did miss your cocky remarks," Eamon said.
I just grit my teeth as my eyes resumed to scan over towards Seraphina.
"I see you're both looking well," I finally managed to say but it came out strained. Forced.
"Indeed we are," Seraphina responded. Harmonic. Calming.
She remained calm her hand resting on the Baron's. I could feel my own heart pound within my ribcage almost painfully at the sight of it. The Baron always had that conceited smile resting on his face.
"You look tired... " The Baron's voice finally broke me out.
"We had a long travel so, obviously I am."
"Huh, did you?" I swore I could hear the arrogant facade of his voice falter and be replaced with almost a vicious hiss at my sudden outburst.
"I will take him to his room," Lyra said as she emerged from the doorway where she was standing.
Everyone snapped her heads towards her and the Baron seemed to relax once again in his seat.
With a nod, he waved his hand and Lyra nodded towards me. Though I didn't have a chance to speak to Seraphina... perhaps later. I turned on my heel following the emissary through the silver halls.
I took in every tapestry and design as the cinfolque arches that showed us the view from the city below... though the towers were larger than the floor we were on we kept on ascending. Through the way, we were greeted with nods from other people. Though it wasn't only servants... other division members were here as well.
I gave nods and smiles at them as I followed her through the hallways then we came upon the arched door. With a flick of her wrists, the doors slowly opened welcoming a room.
"We prepared this room for you, Spring Lord. We hope it is similar to yours at home," Lyra said.
She was right... almost a pure replica of my room. Created by my oak tile walls with my armoire to my right and the dark green emerald sheets... it almost felt like home. The only difference was the balcony at the very front which greeted me with the look of the city.
"If you require anything from me... my quarters are a few doors down," She said with a nod towards me before turning back towards the entrance.
I couldn't help but tug at the corners of my lips as I turned to her. She was at the door before I spoke out. "Is there anything I can do for you? Perhaps anything you need?"
She stopped in her tracks and then turned towards me. "Do not cause drama for the sake of everything tomorrow night. I had seen your eyes when you looked upon the Baroness. Everyone did... We know you still love her and the Baron... albeit will poke and prod you with his achievement of having her."
I took her words in as it came off with a hiss. Before I could respond she slammed the door behind her with a loud shut.
I stood there dumbfounded... did she expect so lowly of me? So now I would cause a scene?! But then again she was right. Making a sudden complicated situation within the ball wouldn't cause a good reputation towards myself.
As I was left to only the sounds of crackles in the room I turned my head towards my bed. Placing my satchel down I began to unpack spreading out towards my clothes... and the mask. I had been informed by Lyra on the way out that we would have a masquerade ball and thankfully she had gotten me one on the way since I hadn't brought any.
It was beautiful.
Designed with a dark green with golden branches coming from the side with little cherry blossom designs on the corners of it. It was well to cover my face but... A masquerade ball was odd.
As I could feel my muscles and exhaustion give out I fixed up all the belongings in the nearby armoire before dropping on towards the bed. With a loud creek and the comfy sheets below me, I let out a sigh of relief...
The sweet smell of cherries greeted me as I closed my eyes letting exhaustion take me.
