"Hey... Lord of Spring," Lyra said.
As I neared her I began to notice it. Her eyes had eyebags and she was scribbling hard in her notebook. It looked like she was about to stab it.
"Hi, Lyra... You summoned me?" I paused as I neared her.
"Yes... I..." She paused, and then the sound of paper against the pen stopped. She sighed and looked at me.
"Yes, I did. Come on sit," She motioned towards the comfort on the side of hers.
Upon looking at her I could see it. Her eyes were now only filled with a mixture of... probably stress. Taking upon it I noticed how she wore long gloves and a thick nightgown... the room was warm so it was so odd.
"I just wanted to see you, Lord of Spring. I couldn't sleep and... sorry, did I disturb you?" She said her eyes drifted towards me. Glacier-blue. Nothing like Seraphina's.
I shook my head, a faint smile gracing his lips. "Not at all, Lyra. I was awake... doing things."
There was a moment of silence, only the gentle rustling of fabric as Lyra shifted uncomfortably in her seat. I leaned back watching the flicker of fire in front of us.
"What's troubling you? Like I promised... I'm listening," I said.
She soon resumed to quickly scrabble onto the book as she finally spoke breaking out the silence.
"I prefer your presence... not my parents'. They're busy," She replied with a small grumble.
"I... see," I replied, "Is there anyth-"
"My mom. What did she do to you."
I paused. I hadn't expected her to cut me off but with the mere acknowledgement of Seraphina, something spiked through me. My body tensed and I can bet she saw it, a stoic expression placed on her face.
"Tell me," She said.
I paused as I stared down at my hands. The powder of the ice I had smashed in between my hands rested there.
"My maid said she heard banging on and sobbing from your room."
Shit. Wait... how the fuck?
"If you're wondering how she told me... all my maids have telepathy connected to their hires," She said with a nod.
Well, that explained it but as I looked at her face... I couldn't read an emotion. The explanations ran through my head trying to find some believable lie... besides what was this child trying to do? Tell her father?
"We have argued."
"About how much she rejected you I'm guessing?"
My eyes shot up to look at her then looked away. I gave it up too easily and she knew that letting out a scoff before looking outside at the falling snow from the skylight of the mountain.
"My mother always said... she did love you. She told me. Every time she talked about you, she spoke as if you were a prince charming to save her. We both know that's true but..." I paused and then looked at him. "She couldn't do it. You both were broken. You must understand that."
