Who he was, and What he is

There was a soft thud as something hit the floor, bouncing straight upward into an awaiting hand. This happened a few times, the shape circular; a bouncy ball.

It was small, something one could easily toss against a wall for some entertainment. Currently held between cold fingers, it glistened a beautiful blue.

It was high noon, the city streets flocking with busy citizens heading for lunch. One in this crowd stood alone in a darkened alley, leaning against the wall as they bounced the ball between their fingers.

Their gaze was ahead, eyeing a small building cut into the cityscape. Draped in purple cloth and large red beans of wood, it certainly stood out compared to the businesses that sat on either side.

In front of this strange building was a man of darker skin and black hair. A man unafraid to hide his beastly appearance, his black tail swishing behind him: the six eared Macaque. Though, if you looked close enough, you could tell a glamor was on him- hiding countless scars.

It felt pointless to the man who eyed him, wondering what was the reason for hiding nothing but scars? Was it to deny they happened? Or to save the pitiful feelings of the man who caused them?

The bearer of the bouncy ball smirked, amused as he watched the man work tirelessly on getting the tapestry of purple just right across the entrance. Pinning it with pins and other such things, he stepped back to admire his work, a hand to his hip.

A light sigh echoed through the alleyway as the observer released the ball, letting it plop onto the cobbled ground one last time. It bounced back to him with relentless energy that, had he not caught it mid-flight, would have escaped into the busy street.

The man with the bouncy ball was of average build and nondescript features; however, his eyes held an uncanny brightness that told a different story. He wore an intermingling expression of intrigue and impending mischief as he watched his quarry. "Away from your little temple at last, are we?" he muttered under his breath, a scoffing chuckle following the indistinct words. And no King in sight.

The man felt himself step forward, finding himself a chance when the streets cleared up, offering a moment alone with the Monkey. His hand itched to reach out, to snag the man by the throat and get what he needed and drag this man into the darkness with him... but he stopped.

From beyond the tapestry, through the door frame into the building, a soft chirp came. A little one, carrying a box far too big for his little arms, stumbled out. "I got the box Baba~!" the child cooed, pleased with his efforts as his parent helped him lower the box to the floor.

"Thank you, MK."

All actions of the secret observer halted, his form quickly retreating back into the shadows. His piercing blue eyes locked onto the child with a sense of heavy responsibility, knowing all too well the consequences of putting the boy at risk. For he was one of the key individuals that he had been entrusted to keep safe.

He couldn't be hasty. Patience had suited him well these long hundred years, so best not to waste the time. There would be a chance for him to catch the traitor alone.

His thoughts were assured when a second child followed after the little champion. A boy of fiery hair and pudgey fingers; the Bull Prince. There was some weight back to his legs, having been recovering well from his long slumber. Since he was here, it was very likely his Mother was just inside, keeping a close eye on her son as they helped the six eared Macaque with his little project.

The man slinked further away, knowing there was nothing he could do today with both of them here.

There was a claim set to both children after all, and it would be best he didn't ruin the expectations set to him. He gave the bouncy ball another bounce, musing to himself. How fortunate that the two had become friends.
