An alarm blares through my ears and I jolt hard on my bed. I attempt to will away the sound, to push it far in the back of my mind so I can sleep just a bit longer. The alarm continues to wail throughout Venus and I's tiny ass room only effectively waking me up, and not her somehow.

I slowly look over at Venus who is still peacefully sleeping in her bed like that loud ass tornado alarm isn't going off right next to her. Her shoulder rises and falls peacefully like how mine probably was before my sleep was rudely interrupted.

I groan, rubbing my face as I throw my legs over my bed. I stand, stretching and groaning as I walk over to the curtains and whip them open. The fresh morning light nearly blinds me, but unlike normal summer days, the day fails to shine.

Gloom and fog dooms over Massachusetts this Monday morning, causing me to frown. It isn't the day I was imagining when picking out my first day of school outfit yesterday, but it isn't raining so I'll take it.

I sigh, walking away and towards Venus to finally get her to turn that awful alarm off that is still blaring.

I walk over to Venus' bed and shake her a bit, calling her name.

"V, c'mon you got class in an hour and a half." I mutter softly.

A yawn racks my body causing me to shiver. She groans and swats at my hands and I huff out a small laugh. I walk away from her bed knowing that the little shove I gave her is enough for her to rise from her slumber. She's luckier than most in that sense but it's extremely unlucky for everyone else that she won't wake up to that doom alarm.

I go to walk into our shared bathroom when the doorbell goes off in our apartment. Knowing exactly who it is, I know I can expect very loud men in my apartment so very early in the morning. I shuffle over, mourning the serene morning I could have had.

I huff opening the door, simply watching as Mical and Jackson come bustling through the door, whoops and hollers bouncing off of the apartment walls.

"Guys, seriously? It's 8 in the morning, let's be civil." I murmur, rubbing my face.

I close the door behind them and sigh, slowly shuffling my feet to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I look up into the mirror whining at the thick locs sticking up over my head. My hands reach up and pat them down, hoping for a bit of cooperation on the first day of school.

"Where's Erika and Natalie?" Mical calls out from the front of the apartment.

The snack cabinet slams open, followed by a hissed cuss.

"They had class at 8, so they left. And get your hands out my damn cabinet." I say.

Mical simply laughs and continues to dig in my food without a care.

I crack open the bag to my floss picks, some of them flying on the floor. I take a second to look at the sharp stupid picks lying on the floor, trying to will myself to care about such a thing. I choose not to care about it, lifting my head back toward the mirror.

I shove a pick through each of my teeth, diligently cleaning over each one multiple times. After a concerning amount of time, I place the pick down into the small trash can, then snapping open the cap to my mouth wash. I swish the mouthwash against each cheek just as diligently, forcing the burn on my tongue to wake me up further.

I haphazardly press the toothpaste onto the bamboo toothbrush Erika insists I use, and begin brushing. I close my eyes sighing as I begin humming the happy birthday song, a habit I can't seem to rid of.

After spitting out, I bring my toothbrush back up to my mouth, brushing my lips, then tongue, like I always have, before spitting a final time and throwing my brush into the little cup in the bathroom.
