BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.I hurriedly hit snooze on my alarm clock. Another day, another nightmare.
.."Babe, did you have another bad dream?" Jake asked as he sipped his coffee.
"I did," I answered plainly.
"Is the food not good?" Jake asked, his eyes watching my fork not grasp any food.
"Of course," I reassured him, but the thought of the dream left a sour taste in my mouth. "It's almost time," I glanced at the grand golden clock on the wall.
He sighed, "See you later then, my love." Jake planted a gentle kiss to my lips.
"See you later."
I attempted to finish my meal but my effort wasn't rewarded. I cleaned the dishes and found myself a nice pair of jeans and a maroon sweater.
The beautiful assortment of red, green, orange, and yellow leaves swirling in the crisp morning air greeted me on my way out the door. I had fifteen minutes to spare so I decided to walk to the coffee shop. It was only two blocks from the university so it wasn't really a gamble on time for me.
The busy overcrowded streets never bothered me. I learned how to not be bumped into by so many people and I learned the art of socializing. I also learned how to not be pickpocketed.
"Hey, Sabrina," I greeted the barista.
"The usual?" Sabrina asked.
"Yes please."
"Coming right up," Sabrina said."Thanks for your patience," Sabrina handed me the cup. As I reached out to her, my sleeves lifted slightly. Her eyes caught it before I did. "Hey, you have a bruise on your wrist. Everything okay?" Her entire demeanor changed. Before I could answer, she turned around and yelled, "Rico! I'm taking 10. I don't wanna hear any shit! It's important."
Without another second wasted, she rushed around the counter to me. She dragged me outside to her silver Honda Accord. "Get in right now."
"You're overreacting," I frowned as I strapped my seatbelt in. "It's nothing. I don't know how I got them."
"Is it Jake? You can tell me," Sabrina urged.
I interlocked our hands with a serious face, "Sabby, I promise I'm fine.""Alright," she dropped it and cranked the engine. "To school, yeah?"
"Yes."
