"Babe, wake up," Jake brought a plate of food in front of me. "You were talking in your sleep again," he mentioned. "You like trains?" The puzzlement on his face made me giggle.
"It was a dream," I playfully explained, "Thanks for the food," I kissed him. "Might I say, perfectly timed. You spared me a nightmare."
"That bullshit totem doesn't work. Did she say it only lasted a day?" Jake blasphemed the witch's totem doll.
"I don't know," I shrugged. "It was getting way too weird. We ran out of there with no more questions after we paid her."
"We?" Jake said, taking a seat next to me, reaching for his plate.
"Nile gave her $12 to be exact," I giggled as I munched on my food.He watched me slowly, his eyes studying my face as I ate. "What?" I asked.
"Nothing," Jake said. "You're perfect," he said seriously. "That's all." He finished his meal and so did I in the comfortable silence. He gathered our plates and rushed downstairs.
When he returned, he took a shower. "Let's go see a movie," he said, the towel wrapped around his waist.
"Okay," I joyously obliged and found myself a black dress. I donned my earrings and bracelet that matched my pendant. Then, I fetched my purse and the prized coat Jake bought me. "I'm ready."
Jake was on the edge of the bed tying his shoe laces. "Me too. Let's go," he grabbed my hand and his keys.
It felt like it had been months since we had been on a date. Like an actual one. I let Jake pick the movie whereas I didn't care much as long as we got snacks. And of course, we did. We found ourselves a pair of seats at the top row. We shared the bucket of popcorn before the movie even started.
When the lights dimmed, our popcorn was finished. I snuggled into Jake, my head atop his shoulder. It was an action movie he picked and I admit, it was interesting, but I had somehow succumb to the power of sleep somewhere through the movie.
I felt Jake gently shoving me awake. "You could've just said no," he teased me as we walked out.
"Never," I finished the last sip of my Coca-Cola. "I don't know what came over me. I guess I needed a nap," I shrugged as I tossed the cup in the garbage.
"Can we stop at Roses for cookies?" I asked like a little kid.
"Of course. Anything for you," Jake said.
~~
I was so happy to see my bed after spending the day with Jake. It was much needed and appreciated but I was more than tired. I chewed my last McDonald's fry and I slumped into bed.
I could hear Jake talking to me from the bathroom but the words were caught in my throat. I didn't have the energy to yell back. I didn't have the energy to do anything except lie there.
So, naturally, I closed my eyes.
