30. Trapped

Lan Xichen wakes up groggy and disoriented then he finds himself in total darkness.

The last thing Lan Xichen remembers is falling asleep in the cave beside Wei Wuxian and his younger brother, Lan Wangji.

Now, Lan Xichen is lying on a cold, hard surface near a lake, but he cannot see anything around him.

Lan Xichen mutters, trying to adjust his eyes to the darkness as he sits up and calls out, “What is going on? Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian. Where are you both?”

There is no response, only Lan Xichen's voice echoes faintly in the oppressive darkness.

Lan Xichen stands up carefully, his heart pounding with anxiety, he calls out again, louder this time, "Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, can you both hear me because I can't see anything here."

Still, no answer then Lan Xichen’s worry grows and he begins to walk around, feeling his way through the darkness, but there is no sign of a way out.

Lan Xichen's hands brush against the cold, rough walls of the cave which feels like a small, enclosed space, like a box with no exits.

Lan Xichen says aloud, frustration evident in his voice, "Where have you both gone? why has it suddenly become so dark inside the cave? If any of you is able to hear my voice then respond to me quickly.”

Lan Xichen keeps calling for his brother and Wei Wuxian, hoping that they might be nearby, but his calls only result in silence.

Exhausted from his efforts, Lan Xichen eventually sits down on the cold ground, feeling helpless.

Lan Xichen says, trying to calm himself, “I don't feel right here because this place is very strange. We were together just moments ago. How did I end up here alone?”

Lan Xichen tries to remember what happened before he fell asleep even he recalls the intense battle with the ice wolves and the overwhelming spiritual energy.
