It was a moonless night, after all it was an amavasya. The sky looked blank without stars and the clouds making it even darker. Nothing could be seen around because there was no light to begin with. The night was eerie, silent except for the insects humming. Suddenly the silent night was disturbed by the heavy sound of footsteps.
A spark of light and shadows can be seen through the forest as they walk out towards the opening yelling at each other "Look around! We have to kill her at any cost".
The men spread over the opening searching for a woman they were ordered to kill. After the light vanished towards the other end, a red hooded figure slowly stood up and started walking in the opposite direction. Suddenly the hooded figure slipped on the rocks and fell down making her hood fall back to reveal a face of a woman with a busted lip and tear stained face.
She gasped as she slipped again when she tried to get up holding her eight month old belly. She felt the foetus move in her tummy and closed her eyes "I will not let anything happen to you. You have to live and grow up fast so you could avenge your father's death our Kingdom's death".
As if the foetus agreed she felt a kick making her lips twitch and stood up with the confidence that her baby is on her side and walked towards the opposite direction trying to find a place to hide herself. Suddenly an object flew towards her and hit her head making her fall down and roll down the ramp screaming "Ammaaa.....".
"We got her" One of the soldiers yelled in triumph and the group rushed to where the woman fell only to find empty space.
The woman dragged herself towards a cave trying to control her screams which were threatening to come out. She fell down on the mud floor inside the cave holding her belly crying her lungs out at the blood on her thighs and knees. She couldn't feel the movements of the baby and saw a hooded figure with a scythe at the end of the cave making her close her eyes.
She saw her husband dying before her and her people who were being burnt down to death and opened her eyes which turned red at the sufferings they all went through and the suffering she is going through "Hey Suryadeva! Is this what your descendants were meant to go through? Is this how your magnificent bloodline is going to end? In this cave like an orphan? How can you just stay quiet while your bloodline is being tarnished and begone? How can you not do anything while death takes my baby away your blood away just like any other life on this earth?"
The hooded figure with the scythe walked towards her making her hold her belly tightly "Forgive me for being a useless mother my child..." and closed her eyes and breathed her last with a lone tear rolling down her right eye.
The death lifted his scythe to take the souls of the mother and child when a thunder roared out in the sky and the ceiling to the cave broke with the bright light falling on the pregnant belly of the woman brightening up the whole cave making death fly back and cover his eyes due to the brighteness emitting from the woman's womb.
After the whole cave turned dark death stood up in anger and saw that the little shine was coming from the other side of the woman making him walk towards her. His expression turned blank when he saw a little ray of sunshine, a baby boy emitting light from every pore of his body. He looked at the woman before lifting up the baby boy in his arms who stopped crying nuzzling into death's chest "Your mother's will is stronger than me son!".
As death walked out of the cave the time itself stopped, freezing the soldiers searching for the woman as he walked to the water fall and looked at the empty ground making a basket appear before him. He took off his hood and folded it before placing it in the basket and then placed the baby boy on top of the hood parting it before covering the baby with the other half of the hood.
"You are the last living member of the Suryavansham which ended today according to everyone. But only I and your ancestor Suryadeva will know of your existence. From today on you are not just a descendant of the Suryadeva but also me. The death himself. You'll be called my son, my heir too. And just like Karna your great uncle, you will also be remembered in the history as long as this universe lives because of your deeds, because of your kindness and mostly because of your uncaning cruelty after all you are my son too. The one who won death" Death placed the basket in the river making it flow the basket away from him as the death vanished into thin air and the time unfrozen making the sun rise in the sky it's first rays falling on the last living member of the Suryavansham.
