Riss stood in front, wiping away her tears as her dad carried the casket.
"And now, I would like to invite Sharon Carter to come up and say a few words."
"Sharon Carter?" Riss asked, looking over at her dad. Sam nudged him.
Sharon met Riss's gaze before starting. "Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy." Steve looked at Riss. He was visibly more upset. "She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related. I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. She said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say 'No, you move'."
Riss felt a lot of emotions as she listened to Sharon. She was angry and confused.
"You okay?" Sam asked her.
"No." She answered.
"You and Peggy were close?" He asked.
"She was my great aunt." Riss answered, looking at the floor. "Just found out I'm related to the woman who pretended to be my neighbor."
"You didn't know?" Sam asked. Riss shook her head.
"My mom tried to talk me out of enlisting." Sharon told them as they walked into the hotel. "But not Aunt Peggy. She bought my my first thigh holster."
"Very practical." Steve replied.
"And stylish." She added.
Sharon hit the button on the elevator. "CIA has you stationed here now?"
"Berlin." She answered. "Joint Terrorism Task Force."
"Right. Sounds fun." Steve replied.
"I know, right?"
"I've been meaning to ask you, when you were spying on us from across the hall..."
"You mean when I was doing my job?" She asked.
"Did Peggy know?"
"She kept so many secrets." Sharon answered.
"Seems to run in the family." Riss muttered.
"I didn't want her to have one from you." She finished.
"Are we just gonna ignore it?" Riss asked as the elevator opened.
"I did what I did to keep you safe." Sharon said, placing a hand on her hair. "Thanks for walking me back."
Riss turned to walk off as Sam came over. "Steve, there's something you gotta see."
They watched the news in Sharon's room. "Officials have released a video of a suspect who they identified as James Buchanan Barnes, the Winter Soldier."
"I have to go to work." Sharon announced.
"Yeah." Riss agreed. "We do, too."
Riss stood beside Steve as he called Natasha. She was okay but she was trying to convince Steve to stay home. "Are you saying you'll arrest me?" Steve put it on speaker.
"No. Someone will. If you interfere. That's how it works now."
"If he's this far gone, Nat, I should be the one to bring him in." Steve replied.
