Devil's Daughter

Chapter 16

"HEY BACK UP, BACK UP EVERYONE!!" Shouted Nick as he pushed through the crowd.

"Oh my god." whispered Ziggy in disbelief as she held onto Jonathan's arm.

On the ground laid a body with a severed head that held a terrifying expression a few feet away from it.

"IT'S JEREMY. JEREMY'S DEAD."

Cries echoed throughout the cafeteria as panic wove through the air. Counselors were trying to calm everyone down as they counted everyone who was safely with them.

"Let's go! This is not part of the game!" Gary yelled from the outside, as campers piled into the Mess Hall.

"Five, Seven, Eight, Ten, Fifteen, Eighteen..." Nick counted off the campers as they ran past him, all going to hide in the back of the hall or under the tables from the murderous intruder.

The sound of the power shutting down around the camp, followed by the clicking of the lights above them caused the hall to erupt in screams of terror as they fell in darkness.

Ziggy latched onto Artemis in the process, as they both sat on the table.

"Everyone stay calm! Everything's alright!" Nick reassured the frightened campers but his words did little to ease their fear. "How many?" Gary asked, as he shut the hall's doors. "Twenty-three."

Gary looked around the hall, his eyes just as wide as the campers. "Where's Tommy, or everyone else." He added as the lights turned back on.

"Shit! Maybe they're looking for us?" Gary rambled on as Nick slammed the phone into its receiver. "It's dead."

"We have to go. We have to warn people." Ziggy stated as she dragged Artemis towards the door of the hall.

"I'm sure they heard the bell." Nick hoped that would stop them.

Artemis stood amused at the chaos around her. "Hey Ziggy, where's your sister, she's not here yet?"

Ziggy's eyes widened in panic and as she was about to run out, Jonathan quickly grabbed her, holding her back as she struggled and demanded to be released.

"Hey, you okay." Asked Nick as he checked Artemis over. Watching from the corner of his eye to see Jonathan trying to calm Ziggy down.

"Fine, hell is much worse." Artemis shrugged. Nick ignored her answer and lingered, worried about Artemis but knew he had to take care of the situation before them, as they couldn't stay in the hall or camp if there was a killer running around.

"Are your sure?" Nick held her gently between his arm as he gazed into her eyes.

Reaching a hand on towards his hands she reaffirmed that she was okay. They stared at each other for a moment.

Nick quickly released her as if her touch burnt, his eyes darting to his surroundings as people stared at them, whispering.

Now, Artemis is the new girl in town but no one except Ziggy knew if she was either a Sunnysider or Shadysider. So for the sunnysiders she was a shadysider for hanging out with Ziggy and with the shadysiders they thought she was a sunnysider for her expensive appearance.

"No romance my ass, and with a shadysider." Said Gary, in disgust as he said the last words. Ziggy and Nick glared at Gary, causing him to stutter in apologies.

"Hey, you do realize that's a camper, right?" Gary questioned Nick as he grabbed two spare flashlights off of a table.

"Look, you make for cabin one. I'll head to nine." Nick deflected the question, handing Gary his flashlight.

"What if the killer's still out there?" Gary questioned as he followed Nick out of the hall.

"That's the whole point, Gary." Nick chastised the counselor.

"So much for waiting until the end of summer." Ziggy whispered to Artemis in hopes of lightening the mood only for Ziggy to be roughly pushed back into the wooden wall.

"HEY!!!!"

"WHERE IS SHE WITCH?"

"YOU KILLED HER LIKE YOU KILLED JEREMY?"

The two Sunnyvale campers questioned them while Will Goode stood behind them. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" Ziggy yelled out aggressively.

"SHELIA!"

"WHERE THE FUCK IS SHELIA?"

Artemis moved, grabbing their hair and yanking them away, harshly onto the floor. "Don't know, last we saw her was the humiliating break up with him." Stated Artemis, pointing at Will who helped the girl's up.

"She's probably dead. I mean if she isn't here then... hey I mean great for us, she was such a bitch. I would've killed her myself but, that honour goes to the killer... so sad."

The girl's cried as Will led them away towards the sunnysiders that were also glaring at them, suspicion  and hatred in their eyes.

Artemis smirked, allowing her devil appearance to appear for a moment, scaring the sunnysiders as they fell onto each other in fright.

"Shit!" Ziggy groaned, before quickly pulling Artemis away and out of the Mess Hall. The only sound they were met with was their footsteps, and Ziggy's voice echoing through the dark camp as she called for Nick or any counselors that were scattered within camp.
