Chapter 6 :

Aditya had noticed her as soon as she entered the hall. Although he wanted to approach her, he hesitated to avoid further aggravating her. Observing her anxiety transform into her usual confident demeanor, he followed her and overheard her exchange with Rudra. Her sarcastic explanation for the commissioner’s absence made him smile.

Pravalika held her chin high, met Aditya's gaze, and said,“I never expected to run into you again”.

Aditya grinned widely and replied,“It seems the universe is quite small. Meeting twice in one day, don’t you think we should celebrate this coincidence, introduce ourselves, and perhaps become friends?”.

Pravalika shot him an annoyed look, waved dismissively, and said,“I have no interest in befriending someone I consider a scumbag. Sorry, but I’m turning down your offer”.

Aditya, unperturbed by her rejection, laughed heartily and teased,“Do you really think I’m a scumbag? Don’t I appear to be a gentleman in your eyes? You’ve really hurt my feelings by mistaking me for a pervert”, He clutched his chest dramatically, adding,“You’ve broken my heart!”.

Pravalika shot him a withering glance and turned to Rudra,“Sir! I must take my leave now. Please excuse me”.

Before Rudra could respond, Aditya stepped closer and protested,“How can you leave without having anything? You refused coffee earlier, but you can’t escape now. Come on, let’s have something”, He reached out to grab her hand.

Pravalika quickly stepped back, alarmed by his forwardness, and retorted,“What on earth do you think you’re doing? Don’t try to get close to me. You’re just a stranger and I don’t entertain strangers”.

Rudra, observing the exchange with amusement, was entertained by her forthrightness. He had never seen Aditya, known for his stern demeanor, so gentle and persistent in his attempts to gain a woman’s attention. He admired Pravalika’s confidence and straightforwardness, which contrasted sharply with the manipulative or pretentious behaviors he was accustomed to.

As Pravalika prepared to leave, Rudra asked,“Young lady! You didn’t introduce yourself. Do you know who this man is?”, He pointed at Aditya.

Pravalika gave Aditya an irritated look and replied,“Yes, sir! Apologies for not introducing myself sooner. I am Pravalika, a SIT officer. I met him this morning during a search for a suspect. He is Mr. Aditya, CEO of R&R Group, according to his associates”.

Rudra’s amusement grew as he inquired,“By any chance, do you know whose party you’re representing Commissioner Raghunath at?”.

Pravalika regarded him with suspicion and answered uncertainly,“Hmmm! One of the top businessmen, Mr. Rudra Pratap’s company anniversary?”.

Rudra burst into laughter and asked,“Do you know what my company is called?”.

Aditya chimed in, teasing Pravalika,“Dad! The only thing she’s focused on is cases and culprits. She’s an excellent officer but not so great with current affairs”.

Pravalika stood stunned, realizing the connection between Aditya and Rudra. Her face flushed with embarrassment as she recalled the unflattering comments she had made about Aditya in front of his father. Overwhelmed and unsure how to handle the situation, she averted her gaze, searching for a way to escape the awkwardness.

Aditya, noticing her discomfort, chuckled and said,“Hahaha! You look adorable when you’re embarrassed. You don’t even know how to react to your nervousness. Most girls either fiddle with their fingers or tuck their hair behind their ears to mask their discomfort. But you—standing there, clueless—are just... fascinating. I was drawn to you the moment I saw you on the bus. I really like your genuine nature”.

Pravalika was taken aback by his remarks, her eyes darting between Rudra and Aditya. At a loss for how to respond, she cleared her throat and addressed Rudra,“Sir! Excuse me. I should take my leave now”.

As she turned to leave, Aditya’s voice halted her in her tracks.

“Valli! Please, allow me the honor of having dinner with you”, he requested.

Pravalika’s eyes widened in shock at the familiar way he addressed her. For a brief moment, Aditya thought he saw a flicker of something—perhaps surprise or recognition—in her eyes, but it vanished quickly, replaced by her usual icy demeanor.

“Don’t call me that”, she snapped, her anger palpable.

“But…”,Aditya began, but Pravalika cut him off with a fierce glare and turned to leave. Before she could take another step, she spun around abruptly and glared at him.

Aditya, puzzled by her sudden change in behavior and sensing fear in her eyes, asked with concern,“What’s wrong, Valli? Why do you look scared?”.

Without warning, Pravalika lunged at him and delivered a powerful kick to his chest. Aditya, caught off guard, stumbled and fell to the ground several feet away from where he had been standing.

Rudra watched in astonishment as Pravalika then grabbed him by the shoulder and roughly guided him to the nearest couch. She then seized the long, ornate curtain from the wall and hurled it onto the floor, spreading it out.

“Everyone, lie down on the floor immediately!”, she commanded with urgency, then dropped to the ground herself, covering her head with her hands.

Confused but alarmed by her tone, the guests complied and lay down. A deafening crash echoed through the hall as the chandelier—once suspended above where Rudra and Aditya had been standing—plummeted and shattered into pieces. The curtain provided some protection, preventing the shards from scattering too widely.

In the eerie silence that followed, everyone remained motionless, their fear palpable. The atmosphere was tense until a woman’s voice pierced the quiet.

“RUDRA…! ADITYA…!”.

A woman in her late forties rushed to Rudra, checking him for injuries. After confirming he was unharmed, she hurried to Aditya, who had risen and was stretching out his limbs, wincing from the pain of his fall.

“Aditya! Are you okay? Did you get hurt anywhere?” she asked anxiously.

“No, Mom! I’m fine. Nothing happened to me”, Aditya reassured his mother, Rajeswari Devi.

He then turned to Pravalika, and Rudra approached her as well.

As the chaos subsided, Pravalika slowly stood up, brushing off her clothes. Before she could take a step, both Rudra and Aditya were at her side.

“Valli! Are you hurt? Do you feel any pain?” Aditya asked, trying to place a hand on her shoulder.

Pravalika stepped back, keeping her distance and replied,“I’m fine. There’s no need to worry”.

Turning to Rudra, she added with a wry smile,“Hmm! marvelous! It seems you’ve gathered quite a few rivals along with your success, sir!”.
