"Hei Zi, Hei Xing, watch over my sister. No matter who it is, don't let anyone take her away!" Su He instructed Hei Zi and Hei Xing once again. The dog and the cow responded to Su He's command, and Su He knew they understood. Even though they couldn't speak, they were reliable.
Su He thought to himself that calling them "it" wasn't quite right; he should be calling them "they."
After making sure of everything, Su He quickly picked up a bucket of water and left. He went into a nearby alley and, seeing no one around, swiftly slipped into the warehouse.
He went straight to the kitchen, added some water to the rice cooker, plugged it in, and pressed the cook button. Seeing that it was working fine, Su He smiled and hurried to the storage area.
First, he went to the meat section, grabbing a piece of beef and two pieces of pork. Then, he went to find some frozen buns, remembering where they were stored. He took out a few boxes, including meat buns, lotus seed paste buns, and egg yolk buns.
Su He thought that since electricity was working in the warehouse, the fridge should be operational too. With this in mind, he grabbed a few more pieces of meat—beef, lamb, and pork. He cleared out a section nearby.
On his way out, he noticed a package containing breakfast pancakes. He opened it and took some as well, leaving the packaging in the workshop on the first floor to be dealt with later. He made several trips back and forth to bring everything over.
The fridge indeed worked, so Su He stored most of the items in it, leaving the rest on the counter. He cut up some pork into small pieces for Hei Zi since the dog had been out for a while and was probably hungry too. As for Hei Xing, a mix of soybean and corn powder would suffice as a nutritious feed.
"Maybe I should add some hay next time for better taste!" Su He mused. Although Hei Xing wasn't picky, it would probably appreciate better food.
He also sliced some pork and beef into thin strips and stir-fried them. Su He decided to braise the rest, using a special seasoning blend he had learned, which made for a delicious dish.
With the ingredients ready, Su He set up the electric rice cooker to braise the meat, adding water and setting the timer so it would automatically switch off when done.
The first rice cooker had finished boiling, so he placed some buns inside: three meat buns, three lotus seed paste buns, and three egg yolk buns. He had also bought other flavors to enjoy later.
In the meantime, he prepared breakfast pancakes by stuffing them with beef and pork. "And here we have delicious meat-filled pancakes!"
After a while, the buns were steamed. Su He turned off the power, packed everything into a paper bag, and headed out, leaving a bucket of mixed soybean and corn powder for Hei Xing.
As Su He quickly emerged from the alley, he heard Xiao Nanguo loudly protesting, "Go away! My Dodo told me to wait here for him. I'm not going with anyone!"
Su He became anxious, wondering if Xiao Nanguo was dealing with kidnappers. He had hurried back as fast as he could, worried about this very thing. But he noticed it was a young man, who didn't seem like a bad person.
Strangely, those who look suspicious often can't do bad things because people are wary of them. What reassured Su He was that, although the young man was trying to convince Xiao Nanguo to go with him, he didn't use force. If he had, given Xiao Nanguo's small frame, she wouldn't have been able to resist.
Then again, with Hei Zi and Hei Xing glaring at the young man, he dared not make a move. Hei Xing's horns were no joke. Although not yet a year old, Hei Xing was over a meter tall, and those horns were already quite intimidating. A single thrust could cause serious injury.
