"It does not befit a prince to pout." Vaera told Jace.

"I'm not pouting." A very pouty jace countered.

"What would you call it, then?" Vaera laughed back sitting beside him.

"I'm reading." He flipped a page in his book that he wasn't look at.

"Mr grumble butt!" Vaera declared. "Danika the man you love is a boy! A pouty grumbling little boy-"

"Shut up vaera." Jace spat. They already acted like siblings.

"Your mum requested us all for supper to greet the new idiots- i mean dragonriders." Vaera countered jace didnt even look at her. "You're angry."

"Aren't you?" Jace looked to her.

"I don't see what good it would do." Vaera countered. "Unless i can fry something or someone."

"They are an insult to us. To what makes us Targaryens." Jace agreed. "If any common lout can ride a dragon, then..."

"That does not make me common." Vaera countered. "You maybe but that might be more your attitude- im original!"

"You know what I am." Jace whispered. "Danika too."

"I don't care. Dani doesnt care. She loves you- i personally dont understand her infatuation with you but-" she shrugged. "You are the crown prince, the son of the rightful queen, and here you are sulking because you believe that if not for the dragon or the trappings of your station, that you are nothing." Vaera reminded him. " Do you believe that you are the first noble heir who was not sired by his noble father? Such is the way of the world, Jace, and in resenting it, you only diminish yourself."

"Easy enough to say." Jace spat.  "I've heard the whispers the whole of my life."

"Yeah and we were tight there next to you as you ignored them for your mothers mistakes with barnes. So what? He was a babe- old but yeah." Vaera leaned back in her chair. "Stop your blubbering and prove to them that you are worthy." Vaera commanded grabbing his arm. "Get up and take your place by your mother's side."

"More wine here!" Ulf demanded. "Taming a dragon is thirsty work. Oh, and some more of these little birds."

Jace looked to vaera in regret for convincing him to come.

"A toast." Rhaenyra remarked. "To our new riders. The three of you are not of noble birth, but you have done a thing never dreamed of before now." ulf nodded happily as Jace held back a growl. Dani grabbed his hand trying to lighten his mood.  "I have entrusted you with a power only few have known. And I charge you to take it up with fealty and respect. Serve me well, and I will make you knights of the realm."

"Huh? What do you think of that, boys?" Ulf declared. "We'll be knights... just like that."

"We will not fail you, my queen." Hugh assured. "What must we do?"

Avalon looked to larys that evening. Her daughters were joining the new recruits but she still felt guilty sending katya away with joffrey. Bolt her little dragon joined her. Avalon knew this war was dangerous and sending her away was for her protection but she missed her little angel like crazy. Larys knew it too. He held her as she watched the horizon imagining katya happy.

""We must strike while we have the advantage... and end this war. Learn your beasts and your commands. You will fly in two days' time." Rhaenyra told them. "The strongholds of the usurper, Oldtown and Lannisport, and their armies, all must be subdued. Alone, without allies, he will have no choice but to surrender."

"You wish for us to kill innocents." Baela countered.

" And so many." Addam whispered.

"It is hard... but it cannot be helped." Jace added. Danika didnt think so. She looked to  rhaenyra shaking her head slightly. She didnt want to be queen of the ashes.

"We must break the will of our enemy... or more will die in a struggle that stretches on without end." Rhaenyra added.

"What about Vhagar?" Addam questioned.

"She is fearsome... but she is one dragon. The prince regent cannot defend against all of us." Rhaenyra added looking to vaera

"Hells yeah! Caged no more! Put me to work!" Vaera declared

"I'll take him on myself. Silverwing's a goer, she is." Ulf added. "We're afraid of nothing."

"Even if you are. There will be time enough to see which one of us is a coward." Addam assured.

"I said more of these little birds!" Ulf demanded.

"Can we return him and try again?" Danika whispered to jace.

"A knight will comport himself with grace at the queen's table." Rhaenyra reminded him.

"Best make me a knight, then." Ulf agreed.

"You forget yourself... friend." Jace warned. Ulf scoffed.

"A sense of humor would do you all good." Ulf murmured drinking down his wine.

"There is a message from Harrenhal, Your Grace." the maester whispered coming forward.

"Daemon?" rhaenrya questioned.

"The castellan, Ser Simon Strong. Daemon has raised his army... but Ser Simon fears treachery."

"I will not allow it." Rhaenyra rasped turning back to the table. "Addam... come with me."

" Thank you." Ulf declared "Birds." as addam got up.

"Addam?" Jace rasped as they headed off he looked to danika. "Addam?"
