"Jace... Dani." Katya scolded shaking her head.
"You tell on us, Kat?" Danika questioned
"I didnt say anything. Im not a snitch." Katya declared. "Daddy taught me better than that." She added with a stern nod of her little head. "She saw the dragons fly off. Mummy calmed her down."
"Thanks squirt." Jace ruffled her hair as he passed. Katya was quick to fix her black mop of wavy black hair
"You want back up?" Danika asked falling into step with jace again.
"Yes. Is that awful? Im scared of my mother and yet i willing to risk daemons fury going to confront him." Jace murmured as they walked off.
"Mothers are ferocious. My own mum is scary when she wants to be."
"Aunt avalon is an angel." Jace countered.
"You havent seen her when she turns into a-"
"There you are." Avalons voice boomed. Danika froze. "Where have you been!"
"I thought kat said that your mum calmed them down." Jace whispered.
"Beds empty. No note. Dragons gone! You could have died! Been shot out of the sky like rhaenys!" Avalon demanded
"You are right." Jace whispered "im scared."
"Clearly you worried for nothing because-"
"Was i done?" Avalon countered. Danika shrank back only for avalon to hug her tight. "You had me so worried baby girl." Her tone darkened. "I have half the mind to ground you."
"Please dont. We got the freys to agree." Danika begged "please mummy."
"Prince Jacaerys, Your Grace."
"Visenya." Jace noted looking at the book in his mothers hands. "Vhagar's first rider, and the first wielder of Dark Sister." "I hope you do not mean to use her as an example." Jace mused. Danika was getting a possible grounding and jace thought he might as well get on with his punishment as well
"Why shouldn't I?" Rhaenyra sassed.
"W... It was a long time ago." Jace answered.
"What is the mood at the Twins?" Rhaenyra questioned. "Did his lordship quibble?"
"He wishes for the Freys to be granted Harrenhal." Jace remarked. "At war's end. Assuming." He waited for the shouts of concern but it didnt come. He almost wished it had. Avalon cared enough to strike fear into danika that she wouldnt fly off again without permission.
"I'm proud of you, Jace." Rhaenyra agreed. "You have done our cause a great service." Jace nodded thinking that was the end of it but he knew it wasnt
"Then, why do you look angry?" Jace countered moving closer again.
"You chafed at being prevented from action. Imagine my lot. I'm a dragonrider as well, with a war being fought over my ascension. And yet, I must wait here... always prudent... sending others to fight and be felled in my name. Even you, Danika and Vaera have managed to do your parts."
"You are the queen..." Jace countered. "the tie that binds us. No harm can come to you."
" And you are my son, and I did not give you leave to go." Rhaenyra countered. Here it came. Never mind he liked her lack of worry and punishment better.
"You do not give me leave to go to anything. But who else is there? Rhaenys is dead, and Baela and Vaera cannot bear the burden alone." Jace demanded.
"And when Aemond comes hunting for you?" Rhaenyra questioned.
"Vaera said she would talk to Aemond-"
"Be serious!"
"She did." He mumbled.
"Your dragon is young. Will you fly before Vhagar as Luke did?" Rhaenyra dreaded the thought. "Olaf is small as well and calypso heavens vaera will send her beast into vhagars mouth if she believes its aemonds will." Rhaenyra knew that kind of love. The kind that consumed but wasnt worth it in the end
"Perhaps Daemon could..." Jace stopped himself.
"Daemon is not here. And Aemond now rules in King's Landing."
"Is Aegon dead?"
"Dead or alive, or something in between lord larys informed me but we have no answer for Vhagar." Rhaenyra countered. "Aemond will not wait long to press his advantage. And then what? I have done all I can from here, sent my messages, invoked my alliances. But if all else fails, it is I who must fight. Vhagar is big, but Syrax is quicker."
"So was Meleys." Jace countered and they all knew syrax was just as much a princess as rhaenyra
"Meleys fought two dragons and one of them is slain. Shall I fight for my birthright? Or shall I wait here until we are all destroyed?" Rhaenyra demanded "I need dragons. War ready dragons. Like Mouse..."
"We have no dearth of dragons." jace offered. "We have two large enough to stand against Vhagar. They are called Vermithor and Silverwing and they sleep just beneath our feet."
"Yes, and if only they had riders, none could stand against me." Rhaenyra agreed. "I would go forth in strength and not from necessity."
"There is Rhaena." Danika remarked. "She craves a dragon."
"You are not locked in your chanbers with the doors barred." Jace noted
"Told her i was summoned by the queen." Danika whispered back
" Who nearly lost her life in her last attempt. I would not risk it again." Rhaenyra corrected.
"There are those of our line who never ruled. Those who married into other noble houses, their children born with other names." Jace suggested
"Thats my man always thinking outside the box!"
"A generation ago, or more. Their blood would be thin." Rhaenyra countered.
"And yet..."
"A dragon will only accept a dragonlord to ride it. Or so say the histories." Rhaenyra countered.
"Not all dragonlords and dragonladies look like you and my mother." Danika nodded to her own black hair and jaces. "My father passed on his strong genes. Targaryen blood could be all around us."
"Are you suggesting we put a Mallister on a dragon? A Tarly?" jace shrugged.
" It's better than death and defeat."
"There are records here, surely, of our line and of those who fell out of it."
"There could be scores of them." Jace agreed.
"It's a mad thought."
Danika hesitated reading the room.
"So we definitely doing this right? Wicked!"
