Spirits were high among the group, each of them thrilled at the prospect of finally being able to test their project. Mae was sitting in the front seat next to Kate, who had squeezed over to make enough room for her.Normally they would take turns sitting in the front and navigating which directions they needed to go and whatnot for Jeb while he was driving. But today was different, it was their last chance of the season so they figured 2 sets of eyes were better than one.
Addy and Praveen occupied the backseat, and Javi brought up the rear following behind them in the van.
Mae had just finished texting her parents, assuring them that she would be careful. They always made sure she kept in touch with them during chasing days, Mae knows it's because they track the same storms themselves just to be safe.
But Mae doesn't mind her parent's overprotectiveness, when it comes down to it they were two of the best to ever do it. So having them as backup just made Mae feel better.
"Look at those clouds." Mae commented in awe as she stared out the window
The dark gray wall clouds were forming beautifully; already starting to look like they were getting lower towards the ground. From the look of them, a tornado could drop down at any moment.
"The movement is crazy already." Kate chuckled softly as the wind outside the car began to pick up
"Believe it or not, the wonder twins were right. Southeast winds are picking up." Praveen smiled as he looked up from his computer
"Are you even surprised?" Addy reached forward and shook their shoulders
"It's really building up." Jeb frowned as it became noticeably harder for him to stay on the road because of the wind pushing them
"Try your best to keep it steady, it would suck if we crashed before we even got to see a tornado." Mae teased making him shake his head with a small smile
"Right, because not seeing the tornado would be the worst part. Not the whole car wreck thing." Kate sarcastically stated nudging Mae's shoulder
Thunder started rumbling making goosebumps pop up along Mae's arms, lightening struck through the sky. The storm was growing, that much was obvious.
"One Mississippi, two Mississippi." Addy counted before she was interrupted by thunder rumbling again
It was an old wives tale that if you counted by Mississippi after you heard a rumble of thunder then stopped when you heard another rumble and divided the number you counted to by 5, you would be able to tell how many miles away the storm actually was.
