"Go get your dance bag," Elizabeth reminded her daughter, noticing that Virella had left it behind in the rush to leave. Virella quickly ran back inside, her feet moving swiftly as she made her way to the dressing room. She grabbed her dance bag, double-checking to make sure everything was inside, from her shoes to her costumes, and then hurried back outside to where her mom was waiting.

Elizabeth watched as Virella rummaged through the bag one last time, ensuring nothing was forgotten. When she was satisfied, she looked up at her mom, who was watching her with a smile. "Are you ready?" Elizabeth asked, her voice filled with warmth and encouragement.

Virella's face lit up with a confident grin. "Always," she replied, her eyes shining with excitement.

Once the car stopped, Virella jumped out and grabbed her dance bag, waiting for her mom.

Elizabeth and Virella walked into the studio, each giving Abby a warm hug before heading into the den. Virella's face brightened with a grin when she spotted her best friend, Marcus Rivera. They had been duet partners since Virella was five and Marcus was seven. Now, as Virella was nine and Marcus eleven, their bond had only grown stronger, and their performances had become even more in sync.

As she talked with Marcus, Virella sat down to put on her dance shoes. She slid them on and tied them while keeping her gaze on Marcus. Years of practice had made her adept at tying her shoes without needing to look at her feet—she had been doing it since she was just three and a half.

With a sigh, she heard Miss Abby calling for all the girls in Studio A. She told Marcus goodbye and walked into Studio A with the other girls.

"Arizona was a big downfall, you got your butts kicked." Abby began, drawing the girls' attention. "We have five new routines to perform in Lancaster, Pennsylvania." The girls nodded, ready for the news.

"First, here's the pyramid," Abby continued, presenting the lineup.

Virella

Maddie           Paige

Chloe         Brooke       Nia       Mackenzie

"Now, for the routines," Abby announced, her voice commanding the room's attention. "We have three solos lined up: Maddie, Virella, and Chloe." She glanced around, making sure the girls absorbed the information.

Turning to Virella with a knowing smile, Abby added, "Virella, you'll also have a duet. But I'm keeping your partner a secret for now." Virella's eyes sparkled with curiosity and excitement. She tilted her head slightly and flashed a wide grin, her anticipation evident as she wondered who her duet partner might be.

"Now, moving on," Abby continued, shifting the focus. "Our group dance is entitled 'Electricity.' Everyone, say that with me."

The room echoed with the chorus of voices as the girls chanted in unison, "Electricity." The word filled the space with a buzz of energy.

As the girls began their stretching routines, preparing their bodies for the intense practices ahead, the moms made their way upstairs to the viewing area. The studio filled with the sound of stretching exercises and the occasional encouragement from Abby. The girls were focused, their earlier excitement giving way to a serious determination as they prepared for the challenges ahead.

THREE DAYS
TILL COMPETITION

"Virella, your duet is entitled 'Soldier,'" Abby announced during Virella's duet rehearsal, her tone both professional and enthusiastic. "And your partner is Mr. Marcus." As Abby spoke, Marcus entered Studio A with a confident stride. The moment Virella saw him, her face lit up with sheer delight. She bolted toward him, her arms outstretched, and embraced him in an excited hug, her grin wide and genuine.
