"CONGRATULATIONS!!" We all exclaim once Tracy enters her house, glittering confetti showering over us.
"Come on, guys!" Tracy laughs, shaking her head. "Ya'll almost gave me a heart attack!"
"Shut up and get your cake!" I say excitedly as I walk toward her. "I'm glad the surprise worked!"
Tracy receives the cake, designed as a cop car with her in it - driving. She finally passed the police exam, and is about to train next month. Her studying hard really paid off.
We later move at her backyard, doing barbeques. Her parents are there, flew from Korea and just arrived earlier, her little daughter - Riri, playing with the other kids, and her ex-wife - Sarah, talking with their mutual friends, holding half-sipped beer cans.
"Can't believe Sarah came." Tracy says quietly once she moved beside me, standing by the back porch, looking at the guests.
"Actually, she planned this with me." I glance at Tracy, looking at her intently. "You're badass for passing the police exam. She's really happy for you, Trace."
"Well, I'm not happy for her." She replies bluntly. "She acts like she didn't cheat on me with a guy and ran off with him with Riri. Sarah told me, her realization of liking dicks too came late; I told her I would still love her either way and would support her no matter what, I didn't fucking say she could fuck a dick behind my back. Fucking cheater."
I almost choke on my beer when I heard her with no filter. But it's Tracy, I should be getting used to it by now. I pat her on the back. "It's good that you're now separated. You're safe now from a toxic relationship. Just think now of a new page. You'd find someone more worthy and deserving." Then I glance at Sarah, she is still talking with the other guests and laughing with them. "She gives us a bad rep. Just so you know, not all of us are like that." I return my look at Tracy. "We may like both chicks and dicks, but there are still others who are loyal to stick to one in a relationship... like me."
"You know, maybe in another universe, where we aren't best friends from the start, I think we can really hit it off - you know?" Tracy nudges at me with a teasing smile. "You and I."
I chuckle, delighted. "Definitely. You're fucking hot and nice. A deadly combination. I'd marry you right away."
Tracy laughs. "You betcha! Anyway, Dee, I haven't seen you around much lately."
"I could say the same thing about you."
"Well, duh, I've been reviewing; what's your excuse?"
Just involving myself in the cartel world and killing a guy accidentally, and kidnapping a serial killer in my basement three days ago.
"Baking." I say. "I stay indoor and bake cupcakes."
"New hobby?"
I nod. "Yeah."
🎀
After Tracy's surprise party, I drive my car to the grocery store to buy more baking products. I'll have my very own party with tea and cupcakes with my rabbit later, once I go home.
While the cashier is bagging my groceries, I notice the TV placed above her. The news is on, and the newscaster is reporting.
"Drive by shootings become rampant in the streets as the mafia in the west and the southern cartel clash in a gruesome gang war. Persons involved would drop dead, either tortured or shot, with the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
Lamberto Vanderheim ran a mafia in the west and was arrested two months ago, and is held for a further hearing. His youngest son, Solerii Vanderheim's death three days ago - believed to be a targeted killing by the south cartel - may have ignited a fierce retaliation from their mafia which is still running somehow despite Lamberto's capture.
