I tapped my pen restlessly on my desk as the clock slowly ticked away the minutes. The math teacher droned on about fractions in the background, but my mind was elsewhere. My focus was fixed on the hands of the clock, counting down the seconds until I could leave. I tried to pay attention to the lesson, but all I could think about was how desperately I wanted to be anywhere but here.

As a new school year began, I found myself already daydreaming about summer break. The second week of high school had just started, and I already had visions of endless sunny days, warm weather, and the freedom from the confines of the classroom.

The sound of the bell jolted me out of my daydream, and I quickly gathered my things. With a surge of energy, I rushed out of the classroom and made a beeline for the lab, where I knew my best friend Lexi would be waiting for me. Once I reached the lab, I saw Lexi leaning casually against the counter, a smile on her face.

I gave her a huge hug, and then we got some monster from the cafeteria, then headed to the school parking lot.

As we walked through the parking lot, we passed by Kelly's group. I couldn't help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I saw Kelly, knowing that we had once been close friends before she started to exhibit racist behavior towards me. Our friendship had ended abruptly, leaving me with a feeling of betrayal and hurt.

Before I could turn my head away from Kelly , I noticed that she was talking to this tall brunette. When I saw her, my world paused for a second , she was so beautiful that her green eyes were so captivating. There was just something about her that seemed familiar but also new.

My thoughts were suddenly interrupted as I felt Lexi nudge me playfully. I got snapped out of my trance , realizing that I had been caught staring at the girl. Lexi chuckled, a knowing smile on her face.

Lexi: "Looks like someone's got a crush."

I rolled my eyes as Lexi teased me. I tried to play it cool, but I couldn't deny that the girl had intrigued me.

Later, as Lexi and I were devouring pizza with our older friend Mia, the conversation turned to the girl I had been staring at earlier. Lexi, ever the gossip, couldn't resist sharing the story with Mia.

Mia: "You were checking her out, huh? What's her name?"

I blushed again, feeling a mix of embarrassment and excitement as they teased me about my newfound crush.

I sighed , "I don't know, but she was talking to Kelly . Maybe we could check on Kelly's insta"

We all crowded around Lexi's phone as she brought up Kelly's Instagram page. Mia was scrolling through the photos when she suddenly stopped.

Mia: "I know her. Her name's Sadie. Her older brother, Dylan, he's in one of my classes."

I perked up at the mention of Sadie's name, feeling a flutter of excitement. Sadie. The name replayed in my mind, sending a rush of curiosity and attraction through me.

We went on Kelly's Instagram story and saw Sadie was tagged in it. With a gleam in her eye, Lexi quickly clicked on Sadie's profile and sent it over to my account.

Lexi: "You should request to follow her and slide into her DMs. Shoot your shot, girl."

I hesitated for a moment, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Taking a deep breath, I clicked on the "follow" button and waited anxiously for Sadie to accept my request.

After a while, she accepted my request and followed me back , we scrolled through Sadie's Instagram, and we came across a picture from Halloween. The photos were cute, showing her and another girl enjoying the night together. I was about to move on to the next picture when something caught my eye. There, in the last photo, was a shot of them kissing. My heart sank as I realized Sadie had a girlfriend.

Lexi: "Ugh, she's taken. Typical."

I felt a pang of disappointment, knowing that my chance with Sadie was slipping away.

"I wonder if her older brother is available," mia says, twirling her hair.

Mia's comment shifted the mood, replacing my disappointment with amusement. She had a twinkle in her eye as she mentioned Sadie's brother, Dylan.

Lexi and I couldn't help but laugh at her forwardness. We all knew Mia had a thing for Dylan already.

Lexi: "Of course you'd be eyeing the brother. How typical."
I grinned, finding solace in the comfort of our easy banter

I took a deep breath and worked up the courage to send Sadie a direct message. With a mix of excitement and nervousness, I typed out a simple greeting.

"Heyy"

I hit send, my heart skipping a beat as I waited anxiously for her response.
