Palaver: (Noun) an improvised conference between two groups, typically those without a shared language or culture. (Verb) to talk unproductively and at length.
The tellings of stories have been around for nearly as long there has been fire, so it's only natural that they go hand in hand together. Sometimes, the fire is only there by the glow of cigarettes while you're on the back porch smoking together. Sometimes it's even there by the hum of the engine & the little bit of light from the dashboard while you drive down long roads at night. Then sometimes it's only there in the spark of children's eyes when they swap secrets on the playground under the dark shade of trees, with their imagination unbridled.
There's just a different aura, a different life to stories that are told around the fire, especially at night. In this collection, I will try to replicate that life by telling stories I've heard at fires, even some I've told myself. Be they fact or fiction, I'll leave that for you to decide. Some may be ones you've already heard around your own fires, but the way they will be told may be different. Some may be short, and some may be long. The duration & how they're told can't be helped because I'll tell them as they were originally told to me.
Time doesn't matter, for we are here to palaver. So come gather around the fire.
