The sound of the alarm clock echoed in the room, but Lisa had already been awake for a while. She was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling while letting out a heavy sigh. She turned to check the time on her phone: 6:45 a.m. She knew she was late, but the energy to start the day simply wasn't there.
With a huff, she sat up in bed and ran her hands through her hair, trying to clear her mind. The argument with Jennie the night before was still fresh in her memory, and although she didn't want to admit it, it hurt more than she thought.
She didn't have time to dwell on the drama. She quickly got up and dressed in the first outfit she found: a simple yet elegant ensemble. She rushed down the stairs, ignoring the looks from the maids who noticed her serious expression.
"Where's my father?" Lisa asked coldly as she arrived in the foyer.
One of the maids, looking nervous at her presence, replied with a slight bow. "I haven't seen him, Miss Lisa."
Lisa nodded without saying anything else and headed towards the door. Just as she was about to leave, another maid approached with a tray of breakfast. "Miss Lisa, aren't you going to have breakfast?"
Lisa stopped for a moment and slowly turned to the maid, her eyes reflecting her contained irritation. "Do I look like I want breakfast?" she responded coldly before continuing her way to the door.
Her driver was already waiting at the foot of the entrance, opening the car door for her with a friendly smile. Lisa didn't even look at him as she climbed into the back seat and reclined, closing her eyes for a moment. In her mind, Jennie's words kept repeating like an echo, but she forced herself to push them aside.
Today she had no time to be vulnerable; school, curious stares, and problems awaited her, and Lisa was preparing to face whatever came her way, just as she always did: with a wall of indifference.
The car stopped in front of the imposing entrance of Golden Heights Preparatory School. Lisa observed the students walking around campus, most absorbed in their own dramas. Without waiting for her driver to open the door, she exited the car with a distant expression and began walking towards the main building.
As she moved forward, her eyes caught a familiar figure in the distance. Jungkook was standing near the stairs, hands in his pockets, wearing an expression that tried to conceal something. Lisa couldn't help but frown at how downcast he looked, as if all the usual arrogance and confidence had faded away.
Without thinking twice, she quickly approached him and grabbed his arm, forcing him to look her in the eyes. "Did you cry?" she asked seriously, her voice low but filled with concern.
Jungkook looked at her, maintaining a relaxed expression, though his eyes betrayed his fatigue and something more. With a lopsided smile, he raised his hand, showing knuckles covered in small wounds and bruises. "Battle scars," he replied with a mix of irony and pride, as if it didn't bother him at all.
Lisa examined his hand, feeling a knot form in her throat. She knew Jungkook wasn't the type to let things get to him easily, but at that moment, she could see through the facade. "What did you do this time?" she asked, although she could already imagine the answer.
"What I had to do," Jungkook said with a shrug. "I don't like it when they mess with what's important to me."
Lisa looked at him intently, trying to understand the whirlwind of emotions hidden behind that carefree smile. She knew he was going through something bigger than he was willing to admit, but she also knew Jungkook wouldn't easily talk about it.
Not letting go of his arm, Lisa tightened her grip slightly. "You don't have to pretend to be strong all the time, you know?" she whispered, trying to convey support without being too obvious.
