Sara was lost in thought, staring at the open notebook on her desk, when she felt a light tap on the edge of the table. Startled, she looked up to see Shubman standing in front of her, his expression as unreadable as ever.
"We have an assignment due next week," Shubman said, his tone flat and direct. "And I want you to do it."
Sara blinked in surprise, momentarily taken aback by the request—or rather, the demand. "What? Why?" she asked, her voice tinged with confusion.
Shubman crossed his arms, his gaze unwavering. "You promised you'd do whatever I asked to make up for what happened. This is what I want."
Sara's mind raced as she tried to process his words. She remembered the promise she'd made after the incident with the Instagram post, but she hadn't expected him to take her up on it so soon—or in this way. "But, Shubman... this is your assignment. Don't you think it's something you should be doing yourself?"
His eyes narrowed slightly, and there was a hint of frustration in his voice as he replied, "That's not your concern. You said you'd do whatever it takes, so I'm holding you to that."
Sara opened her mouth to protest but quickly closed it, realizing that he wasn't going to budge on this. She felt a knot form in her stomach. While she wanted to make things right between them, she hadn't anticipated that it would involve doing his work for him. But a promise was a promise.
"Fine," she finally said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I'll do the assignment."
Shubman gave a curt nod, seemingly satisfied with her answer. "Good. I'll send you the details later."
Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving Sara sitting at her desk, her thoughts swirling. She couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something more complicated than she had bargained for.
After Shubman left, Sara let out a deep sigh, trying to push aside the growing unease she felt about the whole situation. She was still lost in thought when Abhishek appeared beside her desk, a playful grin on his face.
"Hey, Sara," Abhishek greeted, pulling up a chair to sit next to her. "What's up? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Sara managed a small smile, though her mind was still on Shubman. "Just... dealing with some stuff."
Abhishek raised an eyebrow, glancing in the direction Shubman had gone. "Let me guess, Shub's being his usual charming self?"
Sara hesitated before nodding. "He wants me to do his assignment. I didn't really have a choice... I did promise to do whatever he asked."
Abhishek leaned back in his chair, his expression softening. "Yeah, that sounds like Shubman. He's... complicated. But don't let him get to you too much. He can be a bit of a jerk sometimes, but deep down, he's not a bad guy."
