Yellow. Yellow is such a happy and warm color, I wish I could hold onto such a warm feeling. For once, my dreams weren't haunting. They were calm and soothing.

The warm embrace of another, It was such a pleasure that I now was unfamiliar to. But my dreams made me remember consciously what it felt like.

The yellow rays of the sun were blinding to my eyes as I lay in my old bedroom. The blue curtains did nothing to block out the light of the sun. I used to throw my small arms over my eyes to block out the blinding light.

My bed was filled with my plush toys that I got from Christmas and my birthday over the years. I would lay in my plushy filled bed with my arm slung over my eyes until I heard a soft knocking at my door.

The door would open, then soft padding of feet across the carpet until there was an extra body on my bed, dipping the bed towards them from their weight on the mattress.

"You gotta get up and ready hun, you have the whole day ahead of you." The soft familiar humming voice of my mother spoke to me as a warm hand lightly shook my shoulders, encouraging me to wake up fully.

When trying to shake me awake wouldn't work to get me out of my bed, she would run her hand through my hair to wait for me, usually while talking. Her hands were slow as they ran across my scalp, but it was oh so comforting.

"I made french toast for breakfast, I also cutted up the watermelon finally." She laughed to herself, I knew she kept on forgetting to cut up the watermelon for the past few days. She's been working too hard at the bar.

The thought of waking up was becoming tempting as she stated what was waiting for me in the kitchen. The smell of freshly made french toast wafted into my nose and made my mouth water.

"You also get the choice of apple juice, orange juice, and lemonade to drink with your food. You should come down to the kitchen to eat your meal while it's warm. You can be late to school today, but you gotta get up and eat." Her words were promising and sickly soft as her hands still ran across my scalp softly, itching the back of my head every now and then. I let out a hum.

"Fine I will." My voice sounded as if it wasn't my own, but I knew I spoke those words to my mom. I lifted my arm off my face to look at my mom, only to find her face blurred out. Her face was like static to my eyes. I tried to make out her face, her hair, her body, but nothing was clearing up. The only thing I could make sense of was her smile that pulled at her lips.

She smiled at me as she stood up from the bed and started to walk out of my room.

"Mom?" I called out to her as she left the room. She didn't respond to my words as she walked out the door that led to a dark hallway with no end.

"Mom?!" I called out louder to her as her figure slowly started to disappear into the unknown darkness of the hallway. She kept walking until the darkness completely engulfed her into its abyss. I sat up in my childhood bed, the blankets falling to rest on my lap as I tried searching the dark hallwayfrom where I was sitting on my bed.

There was silence for several seconds until a blood curdling scream erupted from the hallway my mom walked through.

"MOM!" I yelled out as I went to jump out of my bed. While trying to move my legs off the bed, they got tangled in the blankets, and I tripped off my bed. The world shifted to black.

~~~~~~~~~~~
"MOM!" I yelped out as I jutted out of my bed. Before I could take in my surroundings, I was already falling off my bed with my feet scrambled in the soft blankets.
