chapter 4

   Serene went in her room. The first thing she did was take a cold shower. She shampoo her hair and began to massage her scalp. She lather the soap and washed herself clean. She took Care of herself like a baby.

And she wrapped a towel around herself and grabbed the clothes on the bed.
It was a blue  floor length dress with many stones and gems, it was beautiful but last time when she wore it her 'cousins' accused her of being attention seeker and self center as she was wearing an outfit which was too 'extra'.

Looking at it she sighed and opened her wardrobe. Quickly Taking out a black knee length dress which she hasn't worn yet.

It was a cute black dress with lace. Overall the outfit seemed casual but good enough to be worn at birthday. It made her look harmless and given her age it suited her childish face.

The clock showed the time of exact 6.00pm.
There was a noise of cars outside. Serene looked out the window. It was them. Not the Knights but Bianchi family.

The Bianchi were almost as respected and rich as the Knights. They were also family friends.
Her father’s best friend Nathan Bianchi was the youngest son of the family just like how her father was the youngest one of the Knights.

Nathan Bianchi and his wife, Sapphire had two sons. Mason Bianchi the older and Niel Bianchi the younger.
The Bianchi were blessed with a rare  shade of blue eyes. They were blue and black like ocean. But only one lineage can carry it and so only Nathan’s father, Nathan himself and Mason got those eyes. Niel however had his mother’s eyes. A hazel brown mixed in green.

Mason was one of the people who helped her after her downfall. Mason was Vance's best friend, he took care of her on Vance's behalf.

And Niel, he was her first love. She always waited for him to talk to her. But he never did. He always gave her Mixed signals and made her feel confused. But when his marriage was arrange with her cousin. He left her like everyone else.

She watch as they got off the car and made their way to the house. She saw Mason look at her window. Seeing her there he gave a smile, Which she returned out of politeness.

Sigh..it's time to go Serene thought

Serene’s POV

I walk downstairs. The hall is lit with lights and balloons. The decoration is one the best. It suited the blue and black theme. This birthday party wasn't one of those balls the main family threw. It was just a small party with close people including the main family.

My father was sitting in the guest study which was Attached to the hall with a see through partition. He was laughing and talking with uncle Nathan.

My mother was near the sofas in the hall sitting with aunt sapphire. The boys weren't in sight. Must have left looking for Vance.

I went down and entered the hall catching my mother's attention. She looked at me and she saw I wasn't wearing a dress, she did not look happy but seeing I wasn't wearing too casual she wasn't angry either.

Pheww.. I got away with that.

Aunt sapphire looked at me and grinned.

"Oh look at my baby, you have grown so much. You look really pretty. Nathan! Come look at my daughter" she gushes about me and calls out to uncle.

Uncle Nathan and my father walk towards us and start a conversation.

"Hello there young lady. Where's your brother?"
And like always they both divert the topic to Vance.

"Looking for me?"

A voice called out, we turned to see my brother  standing while Mason and Neil stood on his sides.

"My boy!!" My father calls out and so does uncle Nathan. Ofcourse they love him more.
They all began chatting including my mother and aunt sapphire while I fade in the background.

If it was old me I would have tried to say a word or few to feel included but now I don't even want to. I turn and find my way towards the guest study and quickly grab a book. It was about some researcher who found something in middle of antarctic. Nice. But it didn't excite me.

I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look at my right and there he was. With his hazel eyes Looking at me and his dimpled smile. Old me Would have melt but not me now.

"Hey" he Said
"hey"I replied
"So what you been up to?"he asks

Oohh so it's gonna be one of those times he actually talks to me and does not ignore me like plague.

"Nothing much. what about you?" I ask politely

We keep the conversation short and soon he's called over by his mother.

He leaves with a dimpled smile.

What did I ever saw in him to love him so much before? Guess we'll never know.

If I stay here they would just keep bothering me so I leave for upstairs and take another route towards the backside balcony. They view was the best here. I could see the river not too far and the forest that follow away.
