Irina's Pov :

Suddenly, I jolted awake by the blinding rays of sunlight that beamed through the window. I glanced all across my room, seeing that there was no sign of anyone entering last night. I faintly remembered what had occurred.. I did remember that dream though, and the whole thing with Elijah.. And after that I could vaguely make out the rest.

I slowly stood up, heading for my bathroom. I flicked the lights on, turning to the big mirror. It then hit me — my eyes were puffy and swollen, my hair was a disaster and weirdly I seemed to be paler than usual.

I grabbed my hairbrush, sweeping my hair into a low messy bun. After, I turned on the faucet and splashed my face with cold water. With that, I hoped that the puffiness in my eyes would go down.

And it sort of did..

Abruptly, I heard a knock at my door. "Irina!" Elijah yelled, entering my room. He rushed into my bathroom, shutting the door. "The devil's here.. Cooking downstairs! What a weird person.." Elijah breathed heavily.

I tuned out any other noises, focusing on the heartbeat and quiet sounds from the creature. With that, I had realized it was only our grandmother who let herself in.. I inhaled the scent from downstairs.. she seemed to be cooking breakfast for us.

I whispered, letting my hair fall from the messy bun. "Our grandmother is here, Elijah." He sighed, closing his eyes. "She's here so early.. I thought she was coming in the afternoon." He murmured before exiting my bathroom and room.

Quickly, I changed into jeans and a plain black shirt. Brushed my hair again, getting through each tangle. My swollen eyes seemed to go down, almost appearing normal.

I swung my door open, heading for the stairs. With every step I took, the squeakiness of the stairs echoed throughout the quiet house. Upon reaching the bottom, everything seemed to be in place just as my mother had left it. I was relieved since I had refused to rearrange this house because of their absence.

I still missed them dearly.. I hoped that some day they would knock the front door, appearing with open arms.

I nervously tiptoed, listening to her slow heartbeat. "Nana?" I quietly spoke, walking towards the kitchen door.

Then, there I saw the elderly woman arranging the diner table, placing the dishes she had prepared for us down. After she finished, she looked at me with her piercing blue eyes.

They reminded me of my mothers..

Slowly, she walked towards me, clasping my hand into her cold ones. "Irina.. You're all grown up now, my dear." She remarked, observing my features. "Each day, you resemble your mother and me more." The older woman chuckled, as she made her way to the table and settled down on the chair.

I did the same, sitting across her. I stared at her as she did the same. Instead of trying to make conversation with my grandmother, I sat there silently. I wasn't sure on what to say or ask her.. it just felt so surreal and strange seeing her infront of me.

It sort of reminded me of when I was younger.. Whenever I had a birthday party, for most of them she was there.. staring at me, without saying a word.

Suddenly Elijah walked in with his pijamas still on, and his hair a mess. "It smells real good down here" He said, taking a seat besides me.

"I'm starving!" He drooled looking at the breakfast our grandmother had prepared. "You're always eating though." I laughed, shaking my head. He rolled his eyes. "Food is my boyfriend."

The older woman observed us, crossing her arms with a smile. "Go for it, darling, I didn't make all of this food for nothing."

With that, Elijah dug in, savoring the taste of the pancakes. Meanwhile, I wasn't too hungry.. I guess I had lost my appetite from last night.

She tilted her head, furrowing her eyebrows. "Irina.. You're not going to eat?" Asked my grandmother, looking concerned. I shook my head, sighing. "No, i'm not hungry."

"Have you already had blood?" She asked me, leaning in. I shook my head again.

It's been a while since i've had blood.. Vampires can go a while without blood, even centuries! But Elijah and I aren't that ancient.. so we'll have to hunt soon before we crash out.

The last time I did crash out, it was insane! I attacked this poor woman, so close to tearing her to pieces. Thankfully, that night my father went to find me and stopped me before anything worse could happen. He had to compel her into thinking that nothing had occurred that night.

It was the strangest experience ever.. I was so out of place, it was as if I wasn't in control of myself.

"We haven't had blood in a while nana.." I whispered, looking elsewhere. She sighed, shaking her head. "Your parents.. They haven't taught you both a single thing." She murmured, rubbing her temple.

She raised her face, looking at the both of us as Elijah kept on digging into the food.

"I'll teach the both of you on how to expand your abilities, and how to hunt so you guys don't have to rely on them all the time." She said.

Our parents didn't really bother with helping us reach our full potential and strength.. I always thought it was because maybe they wanted us to fit in with the humans, to be normal teenagers. However.. we obviously aren't.

"Have you talked with them?" I asked, tilting my head. She shook hers. "They've been really busy, Irina.. You must know that by now."

I did know that, but I was hoping she had talked with them.. I was hoping for more information on them.

I sighed, closing my eyes before I felt my phone vibrate. I quickly picked it up, to see new messages from Elaine and Maricela.

Mari : I'm so excited for tomorrow guys.. I need a break!

Elaine : Bich I do too! im so bored of being inside and eating the whole fridge.

Mari : wait! Guys i invited a few friends to come along.. hope you dont mind!

I furrowed my eyebrows at that, wondering on who it could've been that she invited. Whoever it was, I hoped they weren't weirdos... not that we aren't.

I had to start packing today since we're leaving tomorrow, early in the morning. I was planning on taking some dresses, swimsuits, and other type of clothing. I looked fowards to this all week!

Since Elaine's parents were going to be on vacation for a while, they offered us to stay in their beach house that wasn't too far from here. I've only been there once but the place is huge! So many rooms..

"Nan.." I spoke up, biting my lip. "Tomorrow, Elijah and I are leaving for the week.. We're going on a trip with our friends." I told her. "It isn't too far from here!" I added.

She hummed, smiling softly. "Well, I can't stop you, can't I.." She said. "So before you leave me, i'll teach you a few stuff."
