NATHAN LEE DRIBBLES A BASKETBALL on his way to his mother's diner. His daily rivercourt gray hood covering his head as different thoughts ran through his head after recently learning he had been accepted as a finalist for High Flyers something he had been dreaming to attend. His mother had done everything for him, she had endured shame and had to live in the same city as his birth father, his wife and his half-brother. It pained him to leave his mother behind, not only her but his best friend Josie Cameron. The two grew up with one another and her brother James. The trio were inseparable, when they started getting older James had also threatened Nathan that if one day he decides to confess his feelings for Josie to never ever break her heart.

Opening the door to his mother's diner the sound of alerting Deb that her son has arrived. Deb's Den was not that busy that day which Nathan found odd but lunch was over. Deb smiled up at her son, "Hey, sweetie."

Nathan takes a seat directly in front of her at the bar, "What's up, mom. I got the mail. Some bills, a letter from Uncle Cooper and uh, this." Nathan sat down a magazine on the counter, a school magazine. "Thinking about taking some classes?"

Deb grabs it as she takes a look from it, "If they offer a course in making ends meet."

Nathan looks at his mom, he sometimes feels bad. Even if he didn't make the choice or the decision to be made into this world, his grandparents weren't even in their lives ever since she had Nathan. "Do you ever regret it? Your folks cutting you off?"

"Not for one second, Nate." Deb looks at him, "Otherwise, I wouldn't have had you. Besides, money buys you nothing but misery. I mean, look at Dan, Karen and Lucas."

Nathan snickers, "You know, you could have more people in here if you just hired some hot girls to dance on the bar."

Josie chuckled at the sound of what Nathan had said. She playfully rolled her eyes, "I am the hot girl here but I will never dance in the bar."

Deb let out a gasp catching the attention from Josie as she glanced down at a letter. "Nathan, this is from the basketball camp. I'm really proud of you."

"Wow, Nate, this is amazing!" She smiled. She took hold of the paper from Deb and placed it back down on the counter. "We're definitely celebrating later, we have to do something! You rock, don't let it get to your head."

Josie walked off with a container of dirty dishes and went into the back room. Nathan chuckled at his best friend. Deb noticed the admiration Nathan was holding as she equally smiled as big. She's known Josie her whole life, and she wouldn't mind being her mother-in-law. "You know, you two are gonna end up getting married one day."

"Stop it." Nathan shook his head at his mom, "You know she's my best friend we've known each other forever and James wouldn't let me be with her."
