THE FAINT GLOW OF CAR LIGHTS FLICKERED THROUGH THE THIN CURTAINS, CASTING FLEETING PATTERNS ON THE WALLS OF THE HOTEL ROOM. Each time a vehicle passed, the lights would sweep across the space, filling the corners in a brief shimmer before plunging the room back into shadow. I remained still, barely blinking as I focused on the outside world. The low hum of engines came and went, leaving behind only silence once more.

Katriona and my sister was sound asleep on the other bed, Sara's eyes reflecting the calmness she always carried, with her arm over Junkyard who's also sleeping and snoring a little.

Katriona was resting, unaware of the constant vigilance Sara and I had grown used to. For her, this was all still new, confusing. For us, it was survival.

The lights flared again, brighter this time as a car slowed near the entrance. My muscles tensed instinctively, ready to move if necessary. But then, just as quickly as it appeared, the light receded, taking its brief illumination with it. Back to darkness. Back to waiting.

I knew the real dangers wouldn't be so easily seen—a shadow in the dark, a whisper of movement where there shouldn't be. We couldn't afford to be caught off guard. Not now.

I turned my head in alert to see Katriona moving her head side to side in her sleep. She was having a nightmare.

She bolted up gasping. Her breathing unsteady, she expected to wake up in her own room only to be in a dark hotel room with the only source of light being, i believe is called a television that is on Disney Channel.

"Katriona," I said her name. She whipped to me. "You ok?"

"I'm fine," She said lied not wanting to worry anybody when they all have other things to worry about. "Just had a bad dream that's all." She shakily got out of the covers and got a plastic cup from and filled it up with water up at the sink and drank it, tossed the cup away and went back to the main room.

The redhead checked the time on the alarm clock which read six A.M "I'm going to go step outside."

i got up. "I'll come with you."

She shook her head. "You don't have to if you don't want to."

"I want to though."

"Ok."

We stepped outside onto the balcony. Katriona leaned and rested her arms on the railing watching the sky showing early signs of morning. "I have a hunch you didn't get much sleep either."

"Not at all, I have a lot on my mind.." I admitted."I never knew a human like Jack can snore so loud, especially from next door."

She chuckled, a melodious one." More like the Hogwarts Express." She teased, making me grin, already feeling at ease.

"Were you thinking about the mission?"

"H-how did you-"

She shrugged. "Intuition. And hey," Katriona placed her hand on my arm and gives it a comforting squeeze, "It's going to be ok your going to get through this, don't let it get to you." I nodded, her words bringing me comfort. She withdraws her hand. "I can tell Sara had a lot of fun." "Yea, she's one of a kind, I think I got her addicted to Imagine Dragons." "What kind of name is that?" She shrugged. "I don't know they probably imagined a dragon while playing the banjo." I smiled with a chuckle.

We kept talking after that for a long while taking turns with topics here and there like modern stuff, movies, social media, enjoying each other's company. There was no rush, no urgency in our conversation, just an easy back-and-forth. It felt nice, like we could forget everything else for a little while.
