"Bakugou!" Hitomi stuttered, stumbling after him. "Bakugou, wait!"
She pulled her arm away abruptly, staggering back. Bakugou finally stopped running, turning back to look at her.
"What are you doing...?" she mumbled, forcing out an unsure laugh.
"Were you even listening?" he grumbled, shoving his hands in his pockets. "I'm proving to your little dunce of a brother I wouldn't be a shitty boyfriend! You should've warned me the shortie was so goddamn obnoxious."
Hitomi's eyebrows furrowed, her cheeks flushing slightly as she looked away.
Why are you so dumb...?
"I won't argue on that end... But Bakugou, you've really got nothing to prove," she told him, fiddling with her hands. "Toku was just messing with you. It's something he naturally does. Trust me. I'd know, growing up with him for most of my life."
Bakugou scoffed. "I'm still gonna show his sorry ass. He'll be eating his words. I'd suck as a boyfriend??" He let out a restrained, almost menacing laugh. Hitomi could practically see the fires of hell around him. "I'll show that short stack. I'll prove his sorry ass is so wrong he'll wish he never messed with me!"
Hitomi had to fight the urge to sigh.
Sometimes his stubbornness is ridiculous.
Her train of thought was suddenly interrupted as Bakugou grabbed her hand, giving her a small tug and dragging her along.
"Now come on."
Wha-!
Her face flushed as he pulled her with him, nearly tripping on her own feet as they walked down the path. Unlike Class C's haunted house, he was holding her hand, not her wrist, and Hitomi could feel the callousness of his fingertips. It was different when he was the one holding her hand, and not the other way around.
"If I'm gonna prove your brother wrong, we need to do as much as we can before the festival ends so you'll have a lot to tell him about later," he scoffed. "Besides... you said you wanted to see everything, right?"
Hitomi stared at their hands as they walked, her heart beating rapidly in her chest.
Wait a minute.
Hitomi suddenly squeezed his hand, stopping him in his tracks. Bakugou turned around confused, only to see Hitomi giving him a hard stare.
"We left our boba," she told him.
...
Hitomi breathed a sigh of relief as they came back to the boba stand to find their drinks were still sitting on the countertop where they'd placed them.
When she'd realized they'd left them, she dragged Bakugou back to the stand, telling him she downright refused to let her money go to waste.
"Oh, there you are!" the student handling the stand's money exclaimed as they approached. "I saw you leave your drinks earlier, so I held on to them in case you came back."
"Thank you!" Hitomi exclaimed, grabbing her tea. "It wouldn't have happened if a certain someone hadn't decided to give in to my brother's bait." She looked specifically at Bakugou at that comment.
He just rolled his eyes, grabbing his drink. "Whatever, Moon Face," he huffed as they walked away.
Hitomi stared at his drink as he sipped through the straw. "What'd you even get, anyway?"
