The robbery
Getting onto the building's grounds was the easy part. Now the hard part was about to begin. Looking up, he saw how big the Stepped Pyramid of Magic really was.
He had scanned the entire edifice numerous times before, checking for anything and everything. Yet, he couldn't help it, but scan again. He was a perfectionist, and while that might not always be the best way to enjoy life, it was absolutely necessary here. If he wanted to get the job done this night, everything needed to go off absolutely perfectly.
Then, he prayed. He recited a formula, silently inside his head.
"May the way of the universe grant me the power to terminate the job," he finished his prayer.
He closed his eyes. Opening them again, he was ready.
"Great! I set myself up for another grand adventure," the figure mumbled to himself. If anyone had been close enough to hear that, they would have detected a hint of sarcasm in the way it was said.
Dressed in all black, a mask covered up his face, only leaving a hole for the eyes to be able to see through. Kneeling on one knee, hidden behind the bush, he reflected on the task ahead.
He had rehearsed it before, having gone through it countless times in his head. Yet, once again he was at it. Finally, his brain went over a mental checklist as the final preparation before go time.
He adjusted the rope he had tied around himself one last time, making sure the hook wouldn't come off at an inopportune moment and rip itself into his body. Strapping a pickaxe to each side of his hips, and a small sword on his back, the main gear was in place.
Putting a pair of climbing claws on each of his palms, he was ready to go. There were two guards making the rounds on each floor of the pyramid. Timing everything in his head, he was waiting for the right moment.
As the guard rounded the corner on the lowest step, he sprung into action. Striking the claws into the steep incline of the side wall, he quickly climbed up to the first floor.
There, he paused. The second wall was vertical. He quickly unwrapped his rope, and threw the grappling hook around a statue on the floor above. With his feet pushing themselves off the wall, he ascended to the next step.
Jumping over the wall onto the balcony, he hid behind the large flower pot on the side. The first part of the mission was accomplished. Now, he just needed to wait for the guard to pass around.
As the guard rounded the corner, he jumped on top of him from behind, his hand covering the guard's mouth to prevent him from screaming. With a quick snap, he broke his neck. He then dragged the lifeless body and hid it behind the flower pot.
That should buy him some time. His target was on the floor above. Once again, he took the rope with the hook and threw it around a statue above. Safely locking it in place, he began to climb.
As he got to the next floor, he once again found a place to hide. His target was on the other side. He peeked around the corner to survey the scene. A pair of guards was guarding the door into the pyramid.
He knew what to do. He took a pair of flying stars and as he rounded the corner, threw them into the necks of the guards. As the stars dug themselves into their necks, the masked figure quickly ran over to them and slashed their stomachs with his sword.
The guards collapsed to the floor, their lifeless bodies sprawled all over it. The coast was clear now to enter inside the building.
He opened up the door slowly, and walked in. When inside, using the soft step technique, he walked trying to be totally silent. Before reaching the next door, he ducked down.
