No one knows why the supernatural soulmate was created. Some think it was to give vampires a chance to reproduce, some think it was to make them easier to harm. Regardless, a soulmate is what all supernaturals naturally seek. Wouldn't you if you knew the perfect person, or people, were out there waiting for you? It's really to bad that soulmates hardly ever get a chance. Soulmates in fact can be born centuries apart in age, so very few get lucky. They often settle for mates they love and enjoy their companionship.

It should be noted that having a soulmate gives a vampire the opportunity to reproduce.. As long as their mate is female and alive. Vampires and vampires cannot repoduce, but a vampire and a witch could.
However, it is rare for soulmates to be from different species. It's not often you find a vampire with a werewolf, or a werewolf with a witch marked to be together, but stranger things have happened.
The soulmates are established before the supernatural is even created. It's not to often that one person recieves multiple soulmates, but in certain cases it happens. It happens in sibling pairs more frequently, most noticeably with vampires sense it is rare for vampire to even have siblings being as they are turned, not born with the gene.
Nature is funny, and the system cannot be explained. Supernaturals will never be able to understand why they are mated, they will just wish to seek it.
If they are lucky enough to find it, they'll just fear losing it...
