WE'RE GONNA SAVE YOUR GIRLFRIEND, RICK.

WREN COULDN'T BELIEVE HER EYES as she looked at Amanda Waller, who'd been walking them through this mission the whole damn night. And this whole time, she'd been trapped in Midway City. The first words out of her mouth were directed at Rick, which was understandable given that Wren was still invisible.

"You wouldn't have made it without them," Waller said almost smugly.

"We got lucky. I don't do luck. I do planning and precision," Flag complained.

"Admit it, Rick. I was right," she said as he came closer.

"Yeah, I told you to get on the damn truck. Why'd you stay?" he asked as Wren followed after him.

"I was studying your girlfriend," Waller said, making Wren freeze.

Wren didn't know why she was so saddened by that fact. Or surprised. A man as handsome as Rick — of course, he had a girlfriend. And clearly, the others had been wrong. He was just being friendly with her all those times.

Well, she thought bitterly, the quickest way to kill a crush was finding out the man had a girlfriend.

"She takes an average person, a yoga mom, an elderly retiree, and she turns them into a soldier who can take a headshot and still fight. It's an instant army."

Apparently, a girlfriend who was behind this entire shit show. God, Flag had been keeping secrets, and the team was gonna go mental when they found out.

"How'd she do it, Flag?" Waller asked the man, an accusation in his tone. "How'd she game the system with you watching her every move?"

Clearly, Flag knew more than he was letting on. He let things slip through the cracks because it was his girlfriend involved.

"I'll accept the consequences," he said stiffly.

"I am your consequence," she told him.

"You might need to be careful," Lawton said, startling Wren so much that she grew visible once again. And that startled Flag given that she was right next to him. "They think we're rescuing Nelson Mandela."

"Jesus, Wren," Flag swore. "When'd you get in here?"

"Two seconds after you got in here," she said, walking up to Floyd. "Safe to say my reaction to Waller being the asset is the most tame compared to how the others will react."

"I can take care of myself," she said before looking at the few employees of hers left. "Shut it down, wipe the drives."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Copy that."

Lawton quickly walked up to Flag and Wren, the former who was avoiding eye contact with both of them. "Uh, hey, man. I know you can't hear me 'cause you're trapped in your temple of soldierly self-righteousness, but a two-faced dude like you wouldn't survive a second on the street."
